Camper Shell Lights
Camper Shell Lights
Have 12V dome lights in my camper shell. Looking for a source of 'always on'12V power closest to the tailgate. Do not have factory add-on trailer tow package. Am I going to have to run a wire to the engine compartment and hook it to the battery. Possible to get power from the fuse box/PCM??
Thanks

Even though you don't have the factory tow package (7 pin& 2" receiver), all rams come with the standard 4-pin trailer connector. It's tucked under the bumper, have a look. I used that for my shell light. Much closer than going to the firewall.
the last i knew one of the leads on the for pin connector whas for the running lights , cant you use it for youre dome light ? then you wont have to worry wether you turned it of or not becuze it would turn of with youre light switch in the cab.

I ran into the same situation with my new A.R.E. cap. I ran a 10 guage wire protected with a self reseting circuit breaker from the battery back. I put a black 1/4" loom all the way back & replaced the chitzy cap light with a more powerful one from Autozone. Then I wired in a cigar lighter plug for a source of 12 volts if i ever need it.
Works great!!

Thanks for the input. My shell is an A.R.E. also, put in 2 12V dome lights. Like the idea of a power outlet, cigarette lighter, in the shell. Will add one. Ordered the Mopar trailer connector that is standard with the trailer tow package. Will take the power for the shell from the wire that feeds to a trailer battery. Will be on all the time. Is 14ga wire on a 20A fuse. Should be enough to carry the lights and outlet.
Thanks again
