Thats good to know, I can handle making my own harness but a template would be really nice.

So If I am reading this right, just buying the wiring harness from Dodge will allow me to install cab lights on a truck that originally didn't have them? I just recieved my order of smoked cab lights from Recon and was wondering about making my own wiring harness, but don't really have the time or a good soldering iron. The laying out of the holes and drilling doesn't bother me, just the wiring. I have an 07 5.9 quadcab with the overhead if anyone knows the part #. Thank you in a big way.

that p/n is for the 07 5.9 that i have and it worked flawlessly. there was two p/ns when i ordered the harness and i THINK the other was if you had the sunroof option just check the parts dept they can check all the option codes the it corisponds with.

Thanks sled, I'll look into, My truck seriously needs some cab lights. Getting closer to having this truck setup the way I want, the Lorenz leveling kit went in today.

jamesbfishin - Here is where I ordered my cab lights: https://www.dodgeparts.com/product_i...roducts_id/320 This is a factory oem kit the same thing your dealer will get you for the same price. You can actually look at the cab light option on the sticker of a new truck and it's $80. Comes with a template and harness plus instructions. Everything you need except for the tools. On the tools, all you'll need is a 3/8 drill motor, some bits, and philips screwdriver. Nothing to fancy but if you can find one somewhere I recommend using a green lee tool to pop the big 7/8" holes in there. Also be patient and take your time.

Luvnacummins - I don't know what the heck I was thinking saying ****** did that writeup

junky...thanks for the info, that will come in very handy and its exactly what I need. Being patient isn't a problem, I'm a perfectionist sometimes to a fault. As a custom cabinetmaker I've gotten in the habit of triple checking my measurements (s@#ks when you screw up that expensive piece of cocobolo)
Now as for my next question, what the heck is a green lee tool and where can I get one?

They're knockout punches that make very clean holes in sheetmetal but they're pricey. Another way would be to step drill.

Yep, I looked for a 7/8" green lee tool when I did mine, but you can only buy them in a set, and the cheapest set(that still had a 7/8") was like $150~
You can order them online, $35~ for the 7/8" green lee hole cutter, but another $10 on shipping, I wasnt willing to spend $40 for something ill use once, vs the stepbit ill use many times...

I just went the step bit route, $28, and I still have it for other stuff.

The most difficult thing is getting over that first big hole you put in the roof of your truck, after thats its a cake walk.

After drilling 2 holes and adding brass sleaves to them on the transom of my boat last year for more deck drainage, the holes in the roof of my truck don't worry me much. I was kinda thinking the step bit route, thanks guys.

I used the step bit as well....as long as you're talking about the uni-bit thingamajig. Like a pyramid.....hole gets bigger as you drill deeper.

LOL

Also, I has issues (as did others) with the rubber "washers" getting squished out....so I slightly modified some stainless steel washers and put one on top of each rubber "washer". Worked great! (oh....uh.....that comment goes for the RECONs).

Don't forget the pics!!
