Break Dust
Is there a break in period for the brakes? With 2000 miles it seams like there is a lot of redish brake dust on the front wheels for normal everyday driving (not pulling anything)....Just a pain to be cleaning all the time...

Yeah, there's a break-in period for brake pads before the red dust stops - I think it's about 40-60 thousand miles, depending on driving styles - when the pads get down to the metal, the dust changes color...

IF you do heavy-duty use, towing, steep grades and such, you need to be cautious about potentially blocking airflow in and around brake disks - otherwise, ya just MIGHT end up with the cleanest wheels in the junkyard or bottom of a canyon...

Downshifting when you are stopping helps reduce the dust. High speed stops (50+ MPH) without downshifting will put a serious coating on the wheels after just a few hard or long applications of the brakes. I learned not to depend on the brakes that much from my 95' and carried the habits to the 03'<br>Jeff

Genosgarage.com has them. They are called Kleen Wheels. They are fairly inexpensive and they do work. I had some on my 98 dually. they have slots cut into them for brake cooling..
