Blown Brake Fuse and Autostart won't Shutoff
Blown Brake Fuse and Autostart won't Shutoff
I just had this happen this week so thought I would mention in case someone else runs into a similar situation.
On Tuesday Morning I used my Mopar Autostart on the truck and it worked as normal but when I went to shutoff the truck I could cycle the key back and pull it out and the truck remained running. Neither touching the brake or manual shutting off with the FOB worked either so into the Dealer the truck went. Well turned out to be a blown brake fuse no big deal. Later that night I noticed the fuse was blown again and after replacing twice to only have it blow immediately again I couldn't figure out what was happening. So the next morning back to the dealer the truck goes. After the tech. spending about 5 hrs trying to track down the reason since it was interemittently blowing fuses for him he found that the guilty culprit was the wiring harness that goes to the fibreglass cappers 3rd brakelight. I currently have the capper off and when the company I bought it from wired the brake it used a connector similar to a 4 prong trailer connector except with 2 prongs. They had wired the positive thru the mail terminal so it was grounding out in the stake pocket I had it tucked in from time to time.
I have switched the wiring around and the dealership was great to work with on this but wanted to just give others a heads up so they can possibly avoid this or might know what to look for in a similar situation.
