Blower motor fix

I have had an intermittent blower motor for a few months and decided to give it a look see. I pulled the unit out, disassembled it then cleaned, lubed, reassembled and it works fan-tastic!

1- remove fan from under dash with 5/16 nut driver after disconnecting wire.

Bench fan motor - use really large socket to set fan in to help hold upright.

2- using small pick release tabs that hold wire blades in connector and push blade backwards using a flat blade screwdriver. They don't have to come all the way out yet, just released from retainer tabs is fine.

3- remove spring clip on squirrel cage and gently loosen with pry bar and remove cage.

4- remove two Phillips screws on too of motor housing. You will see 3 pins with spring retainers, these do not need to be removed.

5- fan motor is held in housing by 3 rubber isolator pads. GENTLY pry motor out of housing.

6- now we disassemble motor. Using small metal chisel straighten area of case where it has been peened over the top cover. You will see 4 cover tabs that the case has been peened over two edges. Don't cut out material with chie just straighten it and pry case apart.

7- once case is split you can pull out stator with brush assembly. There will be two indexed washers on the bottom shaft, note orientation for reassembly.

8- gently slide brush assembly off stator and inspect brushes for condition.

9- in my case, the contact point where the brushes rub was really dirty. I cleaned this area by chucking the stator in the drill press and used 500 grit paper to polish the copper. Blew everything out and washed the squirrel cage then...

10- reassemble in reverse order

Excellent!!! Thanks for sharing.

What exactly were your issues? Mine seems fine now but just wondering what to look for in the future.
