bed cracking!!!!

the bed on my 05 dually is cracking on the corners against the cab. I have talked to a few people in my area and 3 out of 4 have this problem. My warrenty is up, and i was wonderin if dodge is doin anything about it cuz it seems to be fairly common?

Never heard of that one. I guess it's a good thing I have the Rhino holding mine together.

I've got Rhino on mine too and I can see a redish stain on it in the top corners of the bed behind the cab. Apparently this isn't just an isolated problem.

don't know if this helps, but on '05's the outer panels have a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty.

I've not seen that on a Dodge but Chevy use to be really bad for it.

Mr Bee Apr 18, 2008 09:01 PM

Have not seen this on mine, but I certainly am going to look a little closer.
Moving in on 100K miles so no warranty, but have had Line X liner since 2nd day i owned it. That stuff certainly gives it extra support, but don't know if it would stop this issue, this sounds serious....

How about a picture?

0524VHO Apr 19, 2008 10:56 AM

i have a bed liner, but seems to have only slowed it down and not stop it. its been on the pass. side for a while, and i only just noticed on the drivers side a few days ago. I think im gonna stop by a dealer in my area and see what there gonna do about it.

and i already have 130k on the clock, so warrenty is out the window.

[laugh] That's the first thing I thought of! [coffee]

The 2nd thing was, "Dodge makes it, Cummins rips it in half" :o

I can see having a heavy crossover toolbox mounted doing it. Dodge had a reinforcement kit for the bed sides when mounting toolboxes.

Do you have a part # for the reinforcement kit?

MikeyB Apr 19, 2008 04:28 PM

I believe the part number is 82205240.

Heres a couple of pics for ya. Hard to tell whats going on in them with the spray on liner but it would appear that the area where the bed sides overlap the center on the front have either cracked or it just moves enough to allow water to enter and rust.

The first pic is drivers side, the second is pass side.
