Bed Accessory Question
Plastic liners will cause your bed to rust out. It's happened to me and I've seen it over and over again on other trucks. The prep for applying a spray in liner involves scuffing the paint, that's true, but the plastic liners gouge right through the paint to bare metal and also trap moisture - a very bad combo.
On my truck I went with Line-X, but not over the rails. I have plastic rail caps, but they weren't installed yet when the Line-X was installed, so I took them with me to the Line-X dealer and he masked perfectly for them. I also use a heavy rubber mat to keep stuff from sliding around, and it also helps protect from dents.

The point is moot. He doesn't want a plastic liner anyway.
Ooooppps,
On the topic of Line_x and caps, tonnos, etc.
I asked a local tonno, cap dealer about line-x and a cap and he stated
that most caps, tonnos, etc are held on with clamps and they have enough
adjustability to work with Line-x. He mentioned Line-x would also prevent
scuffing of the paint under the cap but that he wasn't sure if the seal would 'seal' as well with Line-x.
So, depending on the cap, tonno maker -- you should be ok with line-x on the truck.
Cheers

I don't know how the 3M would stick to the LineX on the bed rails. I just had my truck sprayed with LineX. Did the bed & rocker panels & up to the body line above the bumper on the tailgate. Didn't do the rails or the endgate inside because I have the DeeZee caps & tailgate covers. Really impressed so far with the LineX, really nice to not have cargo sliding around the box. Looks like it is going to hold up good, really happy with the rocker panels. I'm pretty sure it will work under the rail caps, the caps have a little play to move them around, & most caps are bolted or clamped in box anyway. Good luck.
I have the Line-X on my truck. Over the rails too. I also put a diamond plate full cover tailgate cover on my truck over the line-x. It will fit, you just need a second person to help when you put in the screws. You can push it down over it. I got mine at a truck accessory place in Norman, Oklahoma. It is the UWS brand. They make tool boxes as well. I had asked around and told that one would not fit but I called them and they ordered me one and let me try it and if it would not have fit then I wouldn't have had to buy it. It WILL work. I would just have them apply the rail layers a little thinner to make sure the bed caps would fit for sure. I don't have the caps but the tailgate is great. I can send you a pic if you would like. Looking around online they were alot more but I got mine for 55 plus tax.
On my 97 with plastic liner it scuffed so bad that there was no paint under it in most places. Spray in on my 04 was great and it was an off brand, Arma. Problems with drop in, if using a fifth wheel hitch must cut drop in for rails top bolt tightly to bed, not bolt thru it, so now you have holes in your liner for dirt to get under. As far as top rails spray in on the top rails will cause poroblems with accessories that attach to the top rail. My Advance folding cover advised no spray in liner on top rails because taped rubber seals will not stick to Line-x type of over the top rails. My 07 now has Rino type (brand that the dealer installed) over the tailgate but under the top rails and an Advance 4 part folding box cover.
Line-x over the rail shouldnt cause problems with any covers out there. Covers usually have three adjustable clamps on each side. They might also have some 3M tape or padding on them too, but the clamps are what hold the cover on. I had a ARE hard bed cover on two of my chevys with a Line-X.
I love my BedRugs!!!!
I looked long and hard at the bed rug even before I owned the truck. Also the hybrid, forget the name, rubber bottom and plastic sides.
I was hoping to put this decision off for a year or two as the truck is light duty used right now but it seems that anything that CAN scratch the bed area WILL. And I'm being careful. Not just throwing things in, etc.
The bed rug had my vote until I saw what I saw. Paint marred to primer on a new truck moving light furniture.
Screw it. Need something tough and need it soon.
Thanks for the continuing feedback. It kind of kills me to Line-X over a 'new' bed but the scratches don't exactly make me feel good either.
I guess drilling holes for the cab clearance lights will really test my manhood!

I know I'm the minority, but I agree with 2003Ram on this.
I'm not worried about rust, my truck has a canopy on it so the box is dry, had a plastic liner in my old Ford (also with a canopy) and the box held up fine, there was more rust other places than under the liner of the 16 yr old truck when I got rid of it.
I like to be able to throw firewood or whatever into the box and not have to worry about denting the box, the spray in stuff will not protect like that. Also, not many of the spray ins I've seen are skid resistant to the extent my Dodge 'anti skid' liner is.
Liners are a throw in at the dealer, spray ins are pretty expensive...

My thing with plastic liners is not only does rust start to form...but everything you put in the back slides everywhere! The sprayed in looks sooo much cleaner. Ill have to get some pics of my inyati sprayed bedliner, its not dull like most liners, it has a gloss thats guarunteed not to fade
