Backseat area
My rear seat stays up and the load floor is down 99% of the time. I use my truck to haul tools and equipment around. Most of the time the tools stay in the truck. I was thinking of using the space that the rear seat takes up in the folded position by removing it and putting in some kind of tool box or pegboard hanging device to hold more stuff in the rear cab.
Has anyone else thought of doing something like this? Basically I would have no back seat. I know the back seats come out fairly easy. I was also looking at pulling the rear door skins and making a flat plate that would go where the old door panel would to keep from getting beat up by sliding equipment. Let me know if someone else has done this on a previous gen so I could possibly get some more ideas. Thanks!

Re:Backseat area
ton4fun,
I would be a little cautious about how many tools you put back there because if you end up in a front end collision, tools could come flying up at you or a passenger.
sorry about the error post.

Yes, I have my seat out and a cooler in there and other stuff I use for the work. It makes more space but do remember that there is no insulation back there so it will be noisey until you get some sound deadening to replace the seat.

Re:Backseat area
I also almost never use my back seats. I have been trying to figure out how to get them out. Anyways, I built a platform that goes over the moveable storage foldout for my Dog. It's carpeted, and I also put cage material in the windows, and plan on putting cage material between the front and back of the truck. Since he's a working dog, there will be times he has to spend a good few hours in there before going on a search etc. I needed to make a nice place for him. The only bad thing is that he's scratched the plastic on the doors a little bit, but such is life. I would love to take that stuff off the doors and put flat aluminum or something back there.

[/quote]I haven't done anything like that. Is yours a split bench in the back? If so a better idea might be to remove one of the seat sections and bolt down a drawer tool box instead of the peg board idea. Leaving the key in the boxes lock would enable you to secure the drawers from swinging out on corners and damaging your door panel plus tools would be much more secure. Putting it on the drivers side would help visibility when looking over your shoulder. Just need to bolt it down good encase of an accident.
Leaving the other side as is would enable you to still use the load floor or seat. I was thinking of a box like this:
