back up lights

question; my friend has a 2006 2500 mega cab 4x4 6 speed trans... when he backs out of his garage and turns his engine off but leaves it in gear, the back up lights stay on! with the key off the lights will stay on . is that normal?
i think not, but i'm only an 01 owner

Is the key still in the ignition? How long does it stay on? I went from a 96 where the dome light went off right away to my 04 where it has a delay and at first I was looking to see if I left my domelight on so possibly it might be a safety thing?

I have a friend with the same problem with his 06. He had to replace the whole lens because it got so hot it melted it. He never knew it was happening until then. When he took it to the dealer, they said they didn't know about that problem. But they went into the lot and 6 other trucks did the same thing. They told him it must be normal. What a load of bull.
Maybe someone will find the problem.
