Another gauge picture thread

I finally got around to getting pictures off my camera. So, here's a shot of the gauges installed. I like being a bit different and finding my own solutions to problems - like the big empty space between the dash and window for no reason. Why not put them in an already wasted space?

There is now a low fuel pressure warning LED off the upper left corner of the pyro in the pillar also (not pictured). It works well, as I can see it flicker or light up briefly on full throttle runs.

The pillar is the srt10 pillar, and the other two are in autometer gauge cups. The wiring just runs between the pillar and the dash where the rubber gasket is. You can only see the wires when the door is open.

Ahh, that's a Parrot bluetooth unit. It is the only bluetooth unit to have a visual interface to see caller id and such. It's a pretty slick device ( a little quirky ). I'm still trying to figure out how to make it work right with the amped infinity system. I have to use an external speaker now, b/c the radio has to be turned up to about level 30 before you can hear anything.

Forgive my ignorance please. What is the purpose of the guages? I know they all read something, i.e, temp, psi, or whatever. Why do you have them in the cab, and what are you interested in keeping an eye on? They look good, and I've seen them on trucks I've worked on in the past, but didn't know what the need for them was.
Please enlighten me.

Smarty??? What's that?
I've read just a little bit around here, and I guess what I want to know is, which set of guages should I get and what advantage do they provide me. I have a 6 spd manual tranny, so i guess the tranny temp wouldn't do me much good. What else is available? I kinda like the looks of the ones that run down the pillars. Do they get in the way of your line of site?
Which brand seems to be the most accurate and reliable?

Hey Glasshog!

I don't know which ones are the most accurate but my isspros sure do match the factory ones well. They did a review on them in a diesel magazine. The Westach did well. And the other major brands did well too. Some of the digital ones had some significant lag but not all.

I bought EGT, auto tranny oil temp, and fuel pressure. I bought the EGT so I can keep an eye on the exhaust gas temperature when I am towing heavy or just driving faster than I should. I also use it to tell me when it is safe to turn the engine off. Apparently if you shut the engine down and the EGT's are still hot that somehow means the turbo might still be so hot it will cook the oil that is sitting in the bearings and that just doesn't sound good. So I wait until the EGTs fall below 375 or so. I use synthetic oil just in case.

I bought the tranny temp gauge because the folks here say by the time the tranny light comes on it has already gotten the oil real hot. So it is nice to see if you are pushing it too hard before you do instead of a light coming on after you just about cooked the oil.

I bought the fuel pressure gauge so i could keep an eye on my fuel filters mostly. But it is also nice to see if your pump is keeping up with what you are doing.

A boost gauge might be nice to have but I don't have one. It can let you keep an eye on the condition of your turbo, hoses, and intercooler, and lets you find where you will get your best economy. There is probably a bunch of other good info you can get from a boost gauge but I don't know what it is.

If you have a gizmo like a Smarty or other electronic device that lets you change and/or trick your engine control computer or a add on box that tricks your engine control computer you need gauges. You might even want to add a boost gauge and a rail pressure gauge because the control computer no longer knows what the true information is because some devise is tricking it and the engine might be able to make more power than Chrysler designed into the electronic controls, sensors, air system, and fuel system.

you could still get the tranny oil temp gauge , EGT(pyro-meter), and whatever you prefer beyond that

SMARTY is a programmer for the engine and tranny

What brand and what model or series gauges did you buy? I noticed they matched pretty well with the factory gauges.

Those are Isspro EV gauges. Boost, Pyro, and Trans Temp. They do match pretty well. The boost is a bit brighter than the others, but I'm working on that.

BM just color the bulb tip with a blk sharpie, worked great. I dont understand why they put one big bulb in the boost guage and two smaller ones in the tranny and pyro .
