Aint this funny
On National Recall eh? Sounds like there are a lot of them having problems. You may be right regarding the need for a recall, but then, it would just make even more backorders and people waiting for parts. Hopefully they will get back up to par on parts and get you back into your truck soon.

What exactly was the problem with your steering gerabox? I have put 22k miles on my truck, no problems as of yet. Wonder if this specific to certain models manufactured during a certain date? Anybody else had this problem?
check around, ive been lied to twicw with the story about parts on back order. Last time i called another dealer and he had what i needed on the shelf. Also told me 3 other dealers in the area had the same part.
I called the first dealer and said *** ru stupid. and they went and got the part from one of the dealers. I think they were to lazy or stupid to take the extra step of looking in the computer to see who else had the part.
My box went out with the pump in my 04, both changed under warranty.

Thanks for all the comments and the support. The steering box has play in it that s why its bad. Some dealers have it in stock but the dealer my truck is at doesnt they have to order it and DC doesnt have any
"6" Super lift w/SSR's, Kore steering stabilizer, 20" Black KMC HOSS W/ Toyo AT's,"

My 04 was stock/ no lift or tires. M box and pump went out within the first 15K. Box was binding inside and this caused the pump to go bad According to the dealer.
Since you know so much why dont you tell my why the steering boxes are on national backorder... Maybe everyone has a 6inch lift on there truck.. You think.....
What do you guys mean by "going out"? Mine was leaking a little just before the warranty was up and the dealer replaced it for free. The new one started leaking a little while later. I accidently but a few tablespoons of regular power steering fluid in it to bring it back up
(instead of ATF)
but guess what? The leak stopped and hasn't leaked for months. Maybe the regular power steering fluid made the seals swell? I dunno, but I'm happy with the result.

[QUOTE=2006 MEGACAB;1626187]Yea cause you cant get a a flippin dodge from the factory with 20's huh..[QUOTE]
20's...you bet! I have them. No problems as of yet. If my steering box goes out tomorrow,I would just rack it up to lift and tires....you play, you gotta pay.

As for a recall...those are only issued for serious safety issues that have or will likely cause an accident/death/injury. You can report anything you feel is a safety issue to http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/
if enough instances are reported then an investigation is performed as to the severity of the issue and if justified then a recall is issued in which the manufacturer is legally obliged to fix the issue...usually if an aftermarket part (20" wheels as an example) is deemed to be the cause the manufacturer will not be held responsible. The more people who report an issue the more likely an investigation will happen and possibly a recall.
any number of reasons why it is on back order. i bet thousands of parts on your truck is on back order. does that mean they are all junk? nope it is a supply issue. could mean nothing...
If I were you I'd talk a little nicer....the person you lipped off may just very well have the connections to look into why they are indeed back ordered and be able to help. As for Luke S's comment he is right. Bigger wheels and a lift that changes the suspension geometry will change the load on the PS components....if the dealer is willing to warranty it you should consider yourself lucky. I was not aware of any 2500 or 3500's that came with 20's from the factory with Toyo AT tires (and what size are these Toyo's also?). The Hemi 1500's do come with 20's but are they the same size and weight as the tires/rims you are running? Also if I'm not mistaken they don't have as beefy or heavy a suspension to turn constantly.
