I am thinking of getting the shortbox 6 step like yours for my dually. I think the bars will stop about where my dually fender starts and the step won't be up against the dually fender.
I thought the same thing when lining them up but after getting them mounted and actually using them, they are perfect.

So I bought a set of Stainless Steel bars from a guy on eBay. They cost $189 plus $65 shipping. There are polished like chrome, have two black rubber step pads. The bracketry is perfect and the fit wonderful. fast shipping as well.

Couldn't be happier!

Perfect!

That's the look I want.

Please elaborate on the wheels/tires/lift kit.

Thanks.

Thumbs up

I bought these on sale for $145 a few months back. I like the understated look and they still dont have any chips in the powder coat.

Because of liability concerns nobody bolts to frames...drilling holes in the frames is a BIG no-no. Most all the bars/steps are mounted to the body.

I have the Putco stainless wheel-to-wheel bars (see sig). They're pricey, but worth it to me. The longer bars give access to stuff in the bed (especially in a 4x4).

I'll second the Ranchhand steps, they are very strong, they clamp directly to the frame with 3/8 plate steel brackets, nothing touches the body, no drilling, and they look great.

I like these beefy bolt-on units:

They're clamp-on, and strong enough to lift the truck with - but I designed them to not require any holes drilled into the frame, since some people aren't comfortable doing that.

The small frame holes added for accessories don't significantly affect the durability or strength of the engineered member.

I removed the wheel-to-wheel SS nerf bars for aesthetics and to keep people from climbing on the side of the truck (saves the paint!)

Mine are like HotrodK's and they were very easy to install. I used a floor jack to hold up one end while I pulled the cab bolt and replaced it with the longer, supplied bolt, and bar. They've been there over a year and 1/2 and they stil look like new.

Whatever you get you'll be happy. I have the W-to-W step bars and like them. The everyday use of getting in and out is the biggest advantage, and all types of bars and steps serve that purpose. Pick the one you like and go for it. It is easily in the top ten for mods to do for your truck.
