2500 6.7l Auto shift speed question.

While driving it seems my truck reachs about 2500 RPMs and sounds like it needs to be shifted into another gear, when shifted it lugs down before taking off. Has anyone else ran into this? Truck runs right at 2000 RPMs at 55MPH, at 60 MPH it revs to 2500. Shifting it to 6th gear drops it down to 1800 at 60 MPH. I'm left running "rev'd" up or too low. Just seems like a narrow RPM band. Any advice will be helpful.

so are you just cruising at theses speeds or accelerating? also is that you manually shifting it or what? My truck shifts like it knows what its doing. But sometimes i will say it shifts too soon. It will shift into 6th gear at 50mph or before so it will be running really low rpms.

While accelerating and cruising and low speeds. I manually shift according to the "feel" of the truck and its RPMs, just seems like the truck is gearing low. More noticeable when driving in area with a 25 MPH limit.
