Programer with deletes
Hello Everyone! I have just read 33 pages of deletes and it is clear as mud to me. LOL I have an 08 2500 4X4 short bed. I have 362000 miles on it all stock. Up until a few months ago I was fairly happy with fuel mileage. 17/10 I use my truck commercially so that is why I have so many miles on it. Recently the fuel mileage has been cut in half. I attempted to remove my DPF yesterday. Actually I did. However the rear pressure line was seized in the fitting. After working it back and forth all I did was break the tubing, and the fitting will not come out of the DPF, it just turns in the hole. I was planning on taking it to the car wash and trying to flush it out. I travel all over this country including California so I need to keep it stock looking for DOT inspections, but after reading 33 pages of deletes and questions it has all run together and I have gone cross eyed. LOL I am not a diesel mechanic. Give me a gasoline engine and we can talk. I do not understand a lot of the terminology used. (abbreviations) I ran into an old high school buddy of mine a few months back that has a smarty tuner. He does not know which one it is except that it is not the jr. It is supposed to have all the bells and whistles according to him. He was using it on a 07.5 6.7. He sold the truck and kept the tuner and stock exhaust. He wants $400.00 for the tuner. Says he paid around $800.00 for it. Now my questions are can I just gut out the DPF, Cat and that other thing and leave them in place so that it looks stock? I get the egr motor and disabling it. I don't get unplugging the throttle body. If I unplug it what controls my speed? I think that was the California delete. I don't need the hp. Just the fuel mileage. I haul travel trailers around the country for pennies and trying to avoid DOT and make a living. LOL Any info would be great. I have the DPF off right now. Just want to know if I can gut it out along with that other junk and put it back with the Smarty? May have to draw me a pic. I seen the pics and everyone is about putting in straight pipe. I need to keep it stock looking or stealth as possible. Any input would be great. Thank you in advance.

Sorry; but here is another thread to read. This is from another site dad2bike started is odyssey about deleting his truck in July of 09; it is called Tom's Smarty Journal. He describes in detail how he did a stealth delete since he lives in Nevada but drives every day into Calf.
I hope this helps as I have deleted but not a stealth delete.

Well looks like the deal fell through on the smarty. So what smarty do I need to purchase to do the stealth delete? I am new at all this and totally lost. I don't want to go crazy spending money I don't have too. thanks

You can get a Smarty S67, SmartyJr, EFI Live or H&S tuner to do the stealth deletes.
Basically any tuner that's delete capable. The "stealth" comes from the way you physically delete the emissions equipment.

if you can find a used smarty, check the serial number, if it starts with "US" it is an EPA compliant and wont work, I forget what the serial number prefix is on the deletes capable tuners, sorry best bet right now is to find a "RaceMe" tuner, they aren't as cheap as a used smarty but nothing delete capable is anymore

So am I reading the RaceMe tuners web sight right were it states that you dont have to delete the egr stuff that it will just turn it off? I am toying with deleting the wifes 08 as its a great truck it just has issues with the dpf as all the early ones did. I am going with the race me tuner and a delete pipe to get rid of the dpf, and was going to go with a egr delete but if I dont need it then I wont buy one....

Don't know if Raceme has delete instructions on their site but its basically the same as the Smarty instructions found here: http://wayback.archive.org/web/20120...EGRDelete.html
