New Gage set installed

Hey guys, need some input. I have just installed a set of gages in the process of getting my truck set up to tow my 5th wheel. My question is at what temp should I be getting worried about EGT. Also Trans temp what is the temp I need to be looking for an exit. I'm not versed that well about those things and diesels in general. This forum is where I've gotten most of my knowledge.
The truck is in my signature the camper's gross weight is 13900 and If I can help it I plan on keeping it below 13K if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Since you have a new TBE; I would keep the EGT's under 1100F since the DPF is gone. I tend to down shift my 6 seed auto from 6 to 5th gear when I see the EGT's around 1100F this will drop to 800F or 900F. But I also watch the boost pressure to keep this under 35 PSI when needed. I normally only see the 1100F EGT'S when towing up 6% slop or so and the engine RPM'S around 1500.

Now with the transmission oil temperature this depends on where the temperature probe is located. I have mine in the transmission oil pan and I am using a MAG-HYTEC AL pan that adds 2-1/2 quarts of oil capacity. My transmission oil temps run around 180F when towing and I have seen on occasion 200F but never over that with my set up.

Hey thanks for the reply Jim. Just in everyday driving I'm seeing EGT up to 550 600 and as low as 300. I have the trans temp installed in the test port as that is where the manufacture said install it. the trans temps today did,t get over 120. That is no load hwy and some in town driving.

For EGT'S that is normal for around town driving and highway driving to with no load. My boost will be below 10 PSI for most of my driving. Now with your transmission I think that is OK for city driving I Know when I am not towing I am usually around 120-140 everyday driving with 80F ambient air temps.

Hope this helps.

Wow, those are pretty low EGT's. Where do you have your probe?

I see around 600F when I am driving around town at 1600RPM"S in 4th gear. On the highway I can see up to 800f when not towing but it will drop back to 700F to 750F in 6th gear and 1500RPM's and under 10 PSI of boost.
My probe is in pre-turbo and between number 3 and 4 cylinders right around the Y in the exhaust manifold. See pic.

Hi Jim,

That is pretty much exactly where I have mine and I am seeing pretty much the same EGT's you do in these some conditions. I was wondering about the original poster's because they seemed so darn low.
