Also, since you're in kalyforrnya, why areyou doing the ccv filter yourself? Isnt it included in the 67500 mile egr service paid for by the dealer?

I wasn't aware that the dealer paid for a EGR service. Furthermore, I don't have 67,500 on my truck, I have 60k.. So even if it is I'm not quite there yet. Do you know something I don't about the EGR service in Cali? Nevertheless, I'm more worried about my tranny cover leaking and yeah you probably right about inch lbs, chalk it up as a hard lesson learned.

The state of Calif. requires the dealers to change out the CCV filter as an emission service.

Now I do not mean to scare you but; sealing surface requires a uniformed load that is furnished by the constant bolt torque that is provided by the bolts. So if one bolt that is missing this joint will not have the constant bolt toque on that portion of the pan as required. This will allow a leak sometime in the future do the thermal expansion of the two different materials when subject to ambient heat in the summer time and fluid heat that will be at a different temp.

I would use a bolt exacter to remove the broken bolt that is in the threads and you may need to re-tap the threads and then install a new bolt torque as required.

Check out the maintenance schedule in your owners manual. You'll see a couple of asterisks next to the egr service at 67.5k miles. It explains that this service is covered by DC at that mileage.

I've got 5k more then its delete time with clean components.

I changed mine Two days ago. That thing was saturated with oil! it must have weighed 3lbs more that the new one! I wonder how this affected the motor?

Got the Bolt out Jim. I didn't have to rethread it either. Thanks for your help

The whole EGR clean - what is that spring?

Hi

Instead of doing an EGR delete (my mistake), I decided to do the "clean" procedure - replacing the CCV filter, cleaning the EGR valve and cooler. In removing the cooler, I think (it may have already been broken) I broke the spring that connects the EGR cooler servo assembly to the EGR block off plate. Both the EGR servo assembly and the block off plate are bolted and don't move (more or less) so it is not clear to me what purpose the spring serves (maybe to prevent the plate on the block off plate from flexing?).

The spring is riveted in place, I've drilled it out and have a similar length, but probably less strong spring, which I plan to install and hope for the best. Meantime, any idea on where I can get a replacement? I tried my dealer and they can only get the entire assembly (EGR servo and the block off plate) for $1100 (ouch!, OK - I'm Canadian, but I am getting severely "peeved" with constantly being screwed).

Picture of spring in question is attached (I hope).
