5.9L to 6.7L, Need help
5.9L to 6.7L, Need help
I have an 04.5 Ram 2500. 9" of lift, 39.5" iRoks, smarty pod, and a few other little things. I also have 5" TBE, minus the cat.
I only have 5k left on the warranty, and Im pretty sure the rear is starting to take a dump on me. Front suspension is showing a lot of wear too. Seems like it would probably be best for me to trade it in instead of fixing everything myself.
I found an 08 6.7L at the local Dodge dealer. Clean truck, 1 owner, 38k on it. The previous owner did nothing other than add an electronic brake to it.
My question is, can the 6.7L get close to the sound of the 5.9L?
I love the way mine sounds now, and I'd rather not lose it.
Also, I would really want to drop all the unnecessary exhaust components: DPF pipe, muffler, and cat. Does dropping the DPF really have an effect on the truck other than it not being warrantable? I was told installing a delete kit would void warranty.
Anything you can do to make it louder?
Also, my truck smokes pretty well with my smarty pod on 4. Nothing obnoxious, and it won't smoke unless I'm heavy on the throttle, but I do like being able to puff when need be. Can you get this out of the 6.7? I've heard differing opinions on it.

My son has a 5.9L and I have a 6.7L engine. We both have a 5" TBE with no cat installed or in my case nox/cat filter and DPF. I am still using the VGT turbo and this makes an enormous difference in the sound that the engine emits.
I am using the Smarty S67 with the ME23 software installed. I am deleted, I did not like the idea of an EGR on the truck and every 250 miles or so going thru a regen.
When I deleted at 20K, I also improved my fuel mileage. I went from average of 11.59 MPG to 14.17 MPG. This is a yearly average which includes city/highway and towing mileage.

The reason the 6.7 is not as loud is the VGT. It really muffles down the sound. That being said, on cold mornings when you hit the engine brake to warm it up, it sounds like a jet spooling up.
If you want it to smoke (and I personally don't agree with it, we are all feeling the noose tightening with tighter regs all the time) you can do a search for "smoke switch", it sorta hit and miss on the results though.
Yes, anything you do regarding the dpf will void your warranty. Anything. You just need to be prepared to be your own warranty station. I took that chance and have not looked back since.
