XZT vs. Puck: questions and statements
XZT vs. Puck: questions and statements
First the statements:
1. I'm glad there are power-adding options out there that don't reprogram/modify the stock fuel/timing/boost maps in the ECM. I'm sort of used to the Subaru community, where the only engine management options were to flash the ECU, or flash the ECU.
2. I really need to stop spending time on these diesel boards. Time = money, literally, because the more time I spend here, the more money I spend on my truck.
3. I haven't looked into any power modules at all until recently, and I like the budget Quad product and the Diablo Power Puck. I like both because they're low cost, low power (better for the transmission), and don't reflash/reprogram anything. I like the Puck for its selectable switch option, and the Quad for its boost fooling functionality (but I already have a Quad boost fooler anyway...)
Now the questions:
1. Which one has a history of producing better MPG gains?
2. How is the installation on the quad? Any splicing or tapping into factory harnesses?
3. I just want to confirm that I understand how the the XZT works: it's just an inline module that modifies signals from the various sensors, right?
4. On "stock" mode on the Puck, it just lets the MAP and fuel pressure signals go through unmodified, right? Hence the "stock" mode truly is completely stock... not some Diablo version of the stock program?

Don't know much about the puck, but I think it's pressure only. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that.
As far as the xzt, it does timing and pressure. It has strong bottom end and I've heard it will gain you some mileage. I will never see a mileage improvement with anything that ads power - heavy right foot syndrome. I had one, but it was a pressure only version, so I could stack it. While it doesn't have multiple settings, it does have a bypass that allows you to run the truck stock without unhooking the box. It is a simple instalation - no cutting, splicing, etc. Run the harness through the firewall, plug the box into one end of the harness and two plugs at the other end - 1 rail pressure and 1 map sensor.

No by pass switch, just a simple plug. Remove the box and plug into the bypass plug. Just make sure truck is shut off first. If you pruchase the Quad Commander with the ZXT you get a few benefits. The Commander is a full compliment of gagues with an optional fuel pressure option and it will then allow your ZXT to have 3 settings , Off, 30hp & 60Hp so it now becomes a limitedly programable power module. Not sure numbers are 100% correct but close. To confirm Give Larry a shout here or give Quad a call and ask your questions.
Good luck, I've been happy with Quads responses to questions and overall customer service. They have always been excellent for me.

I have the Puck and like the guys are saying about the XZT giving good low end power, so does the Puck. I actually took a video clip of a 0-60mph acceleration with the Puck on the 90hp setting

That should give you a pretty good comparison to a stock 0-60mph run. Low end power is good, obviously, mid range is FAIR, top end...can't hardly feel that it's there. I can't comment on the Puck mileage alone because I have never run it alone...somebody else might be able to chime in, but I DO know that running stock, or running the Puck stacked on my Edge, my mileage is WAY up compared to stock.
Puck is pressure only, as stated and literally takes 10 minutes to install.
