Talking WHOA ! Sounds Like a Jet !

Following the way the rest of the members have swapped out their mufflers I did the same only I installed the Nelson 86127M muffler, reducer, Took me about 2 hrs (old stuff pretty corroded) I cannot believe the difference in sound at idle its just a little throatier ,under hard accel the turbo sound is awesome, at cruise there is no more interior noise than the stocker . No drone,no ricer , just good ole Cummins sound! Best $82 I've spent on the truck. EGT's are cooler aprox 75-100* and it also cools down a lot quicker. To anyone thinking of doing this WHAT are you waiting for ? Just do it! You won't get that silly grin off your face !

Is that the 51" muffler? Did you order it online?

hlclmr,

Thanks for your report on this. I'm thinking of either doing this Donaldson upgrade or gutting the stock muffler. (I'm too cheap to buy a whole exhaust system)

When you installed your new muffler, what did you use as exhaust hangers? Thanks!

Cut the stock ones off the muffle, bend as needed, stick them back into the rubber mounts and weld to muffler. Works great!

Remember to stretch rubber tight...

HA! Exactly what I experience! I got the 34" Nelson from my friendly Cummins store and have had the exact experience! Though I don't know about my egt's since I don't have a guage, but everything else you say is so true!
The sound is really good - no drone. I really don't hear much more noise in the cab from the exhaust. I think I hear the engine from under the hood louder than the exhaust. I hear the Donaldson is the same, I just couldn't get my hands on one.

The Pro Comp's are great! They really wear well and aren't loud at all on the road. It's my first set, so we'll see. I wish I would have got the 315's instead, but they told me they wouldn't fit and would rub.
