The Smarty Jr boost fools on all the levels (similar to 1,3,5 on the Sr), so I dont think your going to have turbo issues if you disable the wastegate on those levels with the Sr.

Ok, thanks for all the info but...... why is the boost jumping around like that. Orignal question. Power feels the same, but boost jumps.

Because the wastegate is opening and closing at the 32 mark, and how high it gets after that is based on load.

The wastegate opens up at around 28psi. When you hammer the throttle the boost will spike at around 30-32 psi as the wastegate opens then drop back down to around 27-28 psi. This is what is supposed to happen with the stock turbo software. It retains the stock programming for wastegate control. What you are experiencing is normal with the Smarty. There is enough fuel to spin the turbo higher, but the wastegate is trying to keep the pressure down. Under full throttle, the wastegate has a tougher time working because of the added heat from the programming that is spinning the turbo.

Basically you are bouncing off the wastegates programmed limits with stock turbo software, it's just that the Smarty can temporarily overpower the wastegate. That is why your boost pressure is dancing around.

It will go away if you install the "aftermarket turbo" software with boost fooling, but you put your turbo and head gasket at risk doing that.

As far as it ******* from 60-100mph, That is the nature of a locked TC and the relatively small stock turbo. It takes a while for boost to build when the TC is locked. If you watch your EGT's, they will climb quickly then steady off as boost builds with the increased engine RPM.

As stated before, you do not need to return to stock program to change softwares. Just reload the Smarty and plug it in and upload.

Good Man........Listen to what he just took the time to post. I absolutely agree 100%. A word of caution, if you keep playing with smarty on level 5 and above with a stock 48re, eventually you'll need a tranny. Then after the tranny the turbo becomes the limiting part. Sure is fun despite the dollars! Going to play you pay!

djbikeman... WOW. That is an amazing explanation. Simple, but perfect. LOL The boost changes as well day to day. I have seen 38psi before. You are absolutly right about the egt's too. And don't get me wrong, it goes from 60 to 100 pretty quick, but not as fast as I would like... but I do understand what you are saying. Also, I realize the turbo is at risk, but with the Smarty app with aftermarket turbo, I have heard several times that with the common rails, your head gasket is not really at too much of a risk untill you start getting around 55psi, and the studs start to become an issue at about 60psi or so. I am NOT speaking from experience, sooo..... ALSO, how in the heck does everyone AFFORD these $$$$7,000 trannys??? I make good money, and still find it so hard to come up with that kind of cash. How in the heck do you do it? HA HA.

No kidding! I make good dollars too. But the choice is I have a WIFE. Would cost way more to go the other wayHate to admit but I must be PW! Just got my tax return which would of easily paid for a full billet DTT tranny.....guess where the money went . Yup fifty year old man and can't play. Okay, serious, having smarty for a while as they say anything over level 3 the stock tranny doesn't take it, even driving like grandpa!

On level 3 with aftermarket turbo, i personally dont think your headgasket or turbo are at risk (boost doesnt really get above 40)...higher levels I agree...

I sold a child! Now need a turbo, studs, valve springs....another little one is on craigs list....

I hear ya. Same here with the tax return. I got to spend mine though. I spent it on things that are not even close to the importance of a tranny. Wheels, tires, hunting stuff...... You know. Its just hard for me to spend the money on something I can't really see. I know its there, but can't show it off. Well, I guess you can show it off with the sweet burnouts. You know. Ha ha

I'm running Smarty level 3 (preloaded software) and only reading a max boost of 22 lbs. Even with stock turbo software, shouldn't I be seeing more than that?

It'll hit 22 pretty quick and then just stops there. More pedal, same boost. WOT on a grade same thing. I think tomorrow I'll go back to stock level and check it out.

That seems low. I use to hit 25 or 26 stock. Check some of the other boost threads.
