Exclamation What to do

Ok here is the dilemma!

Do I upgrade the 03 SO with 42000Km. with an edge ez
or BD towpro and EGT gages or buy a 04 05 600.
My problem has been ongoing from day one. We tow a
small 27ft tt with a max weight of 6400lbs.

The passing and hill climbing is unpredictable. Sometimes
when going uphill floored pulling 2000rpm between 80-90kph she will boge down and begin to loose speed other times on the same hill you floor it and she gos like a scalded cat and excelarates like mad. This is very unpredictable so it makes passing a risking manuver.
The dealer has applied all current and past flashes and fixes.
Love this truck. But hate this annoying problem as we tow for two months a year.
Going with the upgrade what is the easiest box to use i.e. change settings and that will not blow the 47 tranny?

Yes I have tried with overdrive turned on and off.
Manual shifting into secound helps most times but not always.

If you trade in for the 600 it's a crapshoot about the mileage issue plus you will lose $4-5000 on your trade in. If you sell outright you might even get what you paid. I've seen 03s still selling for $35,000. The EZ costs around $400 but if you want to save the trans set it on level 2 or 3. I keep mine on level 4 all the time and don't have guages yet but I don't tow much right now. I may be doing a lot of towing in the future so I just got a DTT valve body and converter and I also ordered an EGT guage. The valve body makes the trans shift much better and firmer. The converter is getting put in next weekend so I will comment on it then but from what I have heard, it's almost like adding more power to the truck..

Good Luck....

Dodgezilla,

I am going to upgrade my 48re starting with the valve body. Did you do the v. body install yoursef? If so, was it difficult, or a pretty easy job. I haven't gotten under there to look at tranny yet. I know on some vehicles it is an easy job, haven't heard on our dodges though.

I think if it were me, I would try an EZ or similar power mod before jumping on a new ride. You will be amazed at what a little computer fooling can do for your truck. It will really wake up that SO. There are a couple of used ones here in the classifieds, one for $375 and one for $350. Its worth a shot.

Lower settings only without gauges.

If you tow a lot, one of the torque converter lock-up modules will help a lot as well. Keeping that not-so-good converter locked in your 47RE will put a lot more power to the ground.

I think I'd have to agree....try an EZ first since it's around $400 bucks. It looks like you have your SO loaded to the gill with accessories and so I wouldn't be so quick to trade in on something when your SO has all the capabilities you need - just wake it up! Besides, you only tow 2 months out of the year.

If you don't tow anything, would you still need guages with the EZ? I've been thinking about doing the EZ with my SO, but don't see why I would need guages. The most I tow for 6 months out of the year is a 10ft. flat bed trailer with 2 4-wheelers on it. Do I need guages with the EZ installed on the highest level???

Good luck Driver and let us know what you do!

You can't go wrong with an EZ and an X-Monitor!

Loss of power

First thing check and recheck electrical connections under the hood and to the fuel pedal, MAP sensor etc. Variable performance under the same conditions could be due to variable signals from a sensor or fuel pedal.

If you decide to try an EZ or other upgrades you will need gauges first and you might also consider an exhaust upgrade and Turbo Air Guide.
