what basic stuff to do to a 04 600
man -
must say it is hard not to think about doing stuff to the engine..
have 04 600, 4X4, auto, 48RE... do not use for work/daily tow... at some point will get a camping trailer... what basic stuff "SHOULD" be done for making the truck reliable, run good, run cooler, run longer... ie: llife...
ps: I see more HP and Torq. options everyever... If you where only to do a basic HP/torq. upgrade which one what would you do??? My thoughts where something like...
1. gauges (a must)
2. Better Air filter...
3. a exhaust brake for the mountains (if I ever get there)
4. one HP upgrade ???? which to do for better reliability...
5. FIx the trans at some point....

You can't go wrong with a free flow exhaust. You decide how free you want it (take off cat or leave it on). This will cool off your exhaust gas temp so this is good especially if you're going to tow. Also, I have heard storiew about some dealers that will still honor your warranty with an aftermarket exhaust! However, I don't think you can free up the exhaust and not gain some noise, so keep that in mind.
1) With respect to your other post about which gauge to get (30 versus 60), you will definitely need a 60 psi version, especially with mods in mind. You can go digitial, but be prepared to shell out bigger bucks for them.
2) Yup. FYI - Scotty III is sitting in my garage waiting on a back ordered air filter to show up.
3) You will need option 5 to make good use of one, as I understand it.
4) Many to choose from as you are aware. Lots of information round a bouts here to look at. In cab adjustability in terms of boxes versus injectors is a big plus, especially if you are towing.
5) Big you betch here. Once again get the wallet out, but do it right from the get go. It can be less expensive to upgrade one in decent condition, rather than fix and upgrade one that's been used hard.
Last but not least, with respect to cool air going in and controllable egt's, you may need to factor an upgraded turbo in there too.
None of this should hamper longevity, in fact it can very well increase it, and the fun factor!
