When i went out west last year my truck just flat shut off of me drivin down the road, then seemed fine after that. Now every now and then my starter doesn't even do anything and i have to tap on it. no biggie there, done that on lots of trucks. but even when its workin, it cranks forever... and i mean forever before it kicks over. sometimes it can be up to like 30 seconds. sometimes it idles really rough. what would cause this?

 

I'm thinking you smoked your starter due to starting problems with your truck.
Do a search for long crank time or extended crack time. You will find hrs of reading and most of which has to do with 03's sorry....

sounds to me like the injectors are leaking off, does it smoke any at start up? Sounds like there maybe acouple of problems there.

 

It does not smoke at all on startup. I had a guy tell me somethin about a shim? what would that be? and just a question to Topper, do you think it could still be the starter even tho it still cranks like normal and doesnt fire?

I was reading something about the IAT sensor? i changed the fuel filter and it doesnt seem to help. what yall think. i need some ideas about where to start looking

 

Hows the batteries? Maybe not be heating those glowy thingies hot enough.

Mine started doing this last year with a slow extended crank. Replaced the batteries and she starts much better.
