weird temp issues,anyone else???

weird temp issues,anyone else???

i just changed my oil and fuel filter and greases the frontend up,went for a drive about 100 miles highway and the temp went higher than normal down the highway,exactly half on the gauge,in town and driving slow,it stayed at on needles witth below,my camander says on the highway it was at 197 to 200 in town its 188-190,i bought the 190 tstat last year,seems the oposite too me,is my rad pluged or clutchfan pooched?both seem ok,any tips tp try thanx,temp outside was around 85ish

Not sure

With a 190 thermostat your temperatures appear normal. What were your readings before the oil change? Are you using the same brand & type of oil before and after the oil change? Is your oil level correct? If you have too much oil in the crankcase the crankshaft could be hitting the oil level in the sump and cause an additional load on the engine and the oil to foam.

temps before the oilchange were a little higher on the highway than intown,maybe i just didnt notice it befre,is that a normal cummins tthing to run hotter on the highway than in town?i checked the level after the oilchange and after the trip and it was on the money both times,

Typically a diesel will run cooler when not being worked. Like in the winter....it takes forever to warm up at an idle, but going down the road builds heat quicker. As long as it isn't running over 200* I wouldn't get too concerned. Maybe just pay a little extra attention to the temp for awhile.

my temps are way higher than that if i accel to pass up a hill on a hot day it can easily hit 217 and have seen up to 230 i know its not right but thats just the ways its been since day one...gonna try a rad flush this year

cool now i dont feel so bad,thanx for the info,i may do a rad flush too,i think my aircond rad is kinda mushed up a bit and may be blocking some air,i wish they had a gaurd there,my knees hit it when working on the engine,

Geno's sells the condenser guards, Kilby's I think they are or something like that.
