Turbo Timer

I'm new to this Diesel stuff. I have a 2006 BigHorn quad cab with 14,000. I just put a 6" lift, 35" Toyo Mudder, and MKW 18" wheels. Looks Sweet!!

Everybody is telling me I need a turbo timer, but I'm not sure what that is or what it does. How will it help my truck?

What other extras do I need?

It lets your truck stay running for a preset amount of time after the key is switched off. It allows the egt's to drop and it cools the turbo. That prevents oil coking on the turbo bearings wich increaeses turbo longevity. Some are done by time and other are done by egt. A good shutdown egt is between 300-350 deg.

The ones sold on this site are around $100 http://store.dieseltruckresource.com/turbotimers.html

Some of the performance boxes have them built in, the TST PowerMaxCR and Edge Juice/Attitude for a couple.

isspro makes a nice one and it is available at www.dieselmanor.com, just ordered one for myself. It is a temp based one, which in my mind is the only way to go.

I am running the Juice with Attitude and the timer works great. What ever one you decide on though, be sure it works off the EGT and is not a "time based one".

I disagree. time based ones work just fine. if your running hard or towing hard, turn it to 6 minutes and thats plent of time. I don't have gauges yet so im not gonna be drilling for a probe just for my timer just yet, when I get gauges then thats a different store. I have the howards cool down timer I got off here at DTR and it works fine.
just my .02

personally I would put in a probe, then you dont have to guess when it will be cool,, I dont like guessing, from diesel manor the isspro was 114, and if you needed the kit with the probe then it was 160 or 70 something like that,,

imho

Dont get the howards, i was told it would work on an 06 and it runs my truck out of fuel, then it takes about 20 seconds of cranking to get it fired up.

Our cooldown timer will work off three different inputs to shut it off. The first is obviously temperature. Then it goes for 5 minutes or if the brake pedal is stepped on. Any one of those three inputs will turn the truck off. We have them in stock ready to ship.

I did not think I would use the TST PowerMaxCR R49 Turbo Cool Down timer option much when I got it. When it was off for upgrade, it drove me crazy having to sit and wait for that minute or two. I have grown very used to it and would not be without one. The TST has auto or manual set option. Set for EGT or Time which every comes first. Works great.
