my vote is for dtt .. have had it in my truck over a yr now .. and still grin from ear to ear when it sails through the gears.. i couldn't be happier... it is just too bad the truck doesn't come that way from the factory .. and with my experiences with them they built the transmission i wanted .. not a cookie cut tranny .. nothing more nothing less.. they asked me what i was gonna do with it .. what were my horsepower goals etc. and worked from there.. and what i got was a really strong transmission that works flawlessly when pulling my enclosed and camper ...

Choosing a trans should be based on more than owner stories. Check out what each builder offers, figure out which one is closest to you so you know you can get warranty service if needed, and go from there.

I chose DTT because there was a very reputable builder in my area, and I liked the package the company offered. DTT does a lot of mods that ensure longevity and performance.

If I was that close to Goerend, I would drive the distance.

He makes a good and very valid point here. The devil's advocate to this, and the one I subscribed to when I chose, is that if the product is that good, it is worth the extra effort and distance to obtain.
I would drive to Washington to see Bob to buy a Smarty... I wouldn't get a Banks if it was next door to me. (oops.. I got a Banks before I knew better!)

If Dave has a local installer go ahead and do that. If he trust them to install it properly (with the warranty he gives) they are probably a trustable shop!

I wanted to have James work on my trans in about a month but do I need to order all the parts before I go or can I get them from him?

James only does DTT to my knowledge. Give him a call and talk to him. If you decide to go with him he will order all the necessary parts and have them waiting on his bench before you bring the truck to him. Your truck will only be down about a day or day and half while he removes, upgrades, and then reinstalls your trans.

I have spoke w/James & Dave. James is NOW able to install Goerend transmissions & support the full Goerend warranty.

I spent the day yesterday at Goerend. They did the following work for me:

The triple disk TC with lifetime warranty
High pressure VB with solenoids
billet input shaft
billet front servo cover
billet flexplate
1-2 lever, strap and anchor
Fluid

I'm sure the major suppliers mentioned are just as meticulous, but I was pretty impressed at the detailed work Dave did for me. He spent 20 minutes just inspecting a brand new billet input shaft. He checked everything to make sure it was perfect before installation.

We spent 1/2 hour test driving the truck to make sure everything worked.

Dave also showed me some things he is working on. He is working a valve body plate to smooth out the TC lockup even more. He thought he would have those for testing this week. He also has a 68re on the bench that he is working on.

This is my first built tranny, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am impressed!
