Trans temp with IN PAN sensor
Trans temp with IN PAN sensor
Hey guys,
I put a trans temp probe in my MagTec Double Deep pan. I know lots of guys argue about putting it in the line by the cooler, but the hole was there for the pan, so i figued might as well try it.
What temp do you guys see when you drive and tow with the probes in the pan?
Mine ran 150 on the highway, 160 in heavy traffic/long idle time/working it up the hills/in mud.
Seems cool to me, but i dont' know what's good/bad in the pan nor for the trans, so am just wondering what other guys are getting.
Thanks a lot,
Igor.

Hey Igor, I have a trans temp sensor in the pan of my car, Alot of people on this site will argue against and say put it in the hot line. I have had this in my car this way for 10 yrs now, and I get great readings. I can see my gauge sit all day long at one temp, but the min I start driving it hard, i can watch it climb. My trans in my car is a different beast than whats in these trucks, but If I let it get "warm' I'll see 190 all day long.
Also I can say that outside temps have alot to do with the trans temp. I can take my car out on a 30 deg day, and drive it a little hard, and it will take a long time for the trans gauge to start climbing, but if i take it out on a 90 deg. day, the min I start getting on it, the gauge will go right up.
Hope any of this can help, good luck

I think the pan temps are ok, have not had my 700R4 out yet to see the differnce between the two, leaving the same probe/sensor/sensor location intact.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Thats what I have, a 700R4 with a 10in Art Carr converter, and also I for got to mention, I added 2 external coolers too, and my temps still go that high!!

Igor,
I have the same set up as you. Temp probe in the Mag-Hytec DD pan. My temps are about the same as you under the same conditions. If I do a couple of hard accelerations from the lights it may climb a little higher.

Cool,
Has anyone see one get high and fail?
Just wondering, 'cause I want to be ready to call the accountant once I see the beginning of the end of this trans, lol!
Thanks guys!
