The first mod I did to my rig was the tone ring mod. I was averaging 20-21 MPG every tank no matter how I drove. Now since I've added the intake, exaust, and Edge J/Attitude the best I've gotten is 17.5 no matter how I drive, and before you suggest, the first tank was pretty much ran at full throttle but all since then have been back to my normal driving habits. I know the Edge adds timing and was wondering if I should put the tone ring back to where it was as maybe now it is getting too much. Anyone with experience on this subject your help would be appreciated.

 

If you had too much timing it would rattle pretty bad. The Edge gives the ecm it's own parameters for timing. I don't think your tone ring mod makes any difference with the Edge.

 

Right at 2000 rpm you can hear a definate change in the sound of the injectors, more rattle, other than that no difference. While changing my oil today I went ahead and put tone ring back to where it was, I'll see if it makes any difference.

 

Whats a tone ring? Sorry, but still learning as much as I can with my first diesel.

 

Think of it as a distributor to advance your timing.
