Tips on pullin the pan

Hey guys,
I need to pull the pan on my 03 and was wondering if anyone has any pointers? This looks like it isn't going to be easy but I hear it's do-able. So if anyone has done this I would sure like some help with this one! I need to change # 6 piston.
Thanks,
Topper

Interesting. I was under my truck with a power nozzle attacking the big pieces of mud recently. I thought to myself that it seems like pulling the pan would be so much easier on my current 4x4 than my last 2x4.

Good luck with everything buddy. I would love to see a few pics of the bottom end w/the pan off.

I was looking at that the other day. looks like it is as bad as the 97 V10 I had. I had to undo the mounting bolts on one side then jacked it up on that side to get the pan to drop more and slide out. I'm sure you'll have to do the same thing with this.

the trans and adapter plate has to come out and you have to lift one side of the engine up(i think its the driverside) and then you can take the pan off. I had two change my pan when my buddy let the jack slide off the axle

It is especially not fun when done in context of fishing for a freeze plug when the time was better spent finishing the twins so one could go out and play...

Hey guys,
Well I got the pan off this morning and I got ta tell ya it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It may have taken 45 min. tops. All I did was to disconnect the wire harnesss that is on the back of the bell housing and loosened the motor mount bolts and took the fan shrowd loose then hooked on the engine with a fork truck and lifted the engine about 3'' and the pan slipped right off. The piston came out without a hitch.
I have attached some pics for your enjoyment...
You will clearly see the damage and I have also included some pics of the tops of the pistons where you can easily see the spray patt+ern of the Formula-1 injectors. Pretty cool.
See ya,
Topper
