Cool Third member

I just recently purchased a really cool aluminum third member cover for my 2005 11.5 rear end, my truck just has 7000 miles so i thought it might be a good idea to change the fluid to get out all those brake in particals out, also change to the trick cover, i went to the local dodge dealer for replacement fluid $22.00 for a quart i about fell over cause with the new cover comes a increased capacity it now holds 5 gts. that was over $110.00 plus i also had to purchase the traction lock modifier another $10.00 also wanted a new gasket they told me that was a special order item, so then they tried to sell me some special black silicone rear end sealer in place of the gasket another $8.00 i passed on that, when got home i found out that the gasket is reusable any way it was a expensive oil change, has anybody found another type of fluid at a cheaper price with the same qualitys of the synthetic factory stuff?

Mobil 1 gear lube. An expensive price for it would be 1/2 what you paid for the Mopar stuff. Also, these have a mechanical limited slip in 'em, not a clutch set up, so you didn't need the friction modifier either.

Have they changed the limited slips? AFAIK limited slips have clutches in them that need friction modifier. I could be wrong though.

i dunno what type of new cover you got, but if it happens to be the mag-hytec, they dont need a gasket, they have an o-ring. all the same, every diff ive ever serviced (except when i had the mag-hytec) i never used a gasket and just used ultra black RTV instead. easier and never leaked.....

No mine did not have the o-ring just a flat machined surface its a really a neat cover, actually i purchased it from somebody on this forum the cover was in the classified its really cool i d'ont know who makes it its polished and has a large rams head on it you may have seen it in the classified a couple of weeks ago,Idid have one problem, It is so big that it was hitting my spare tire (since i have a short bed) i had to fabricate a bracket that pulls the spare towards the rear bumper plenty of clearance now.I get a lot of comments about it
