Step bars.

I need some step bars in the worst way. What kind do you guys suggest, where are you getting them and how much? This 4X4 dually sits up high and I feel like the seat is taking a beating with me sliding in and out of it all the time. Thanks.

I went with the Westin Platinum Series Step Bars. I bought locally and got a deal as a friend of mine is good friend of the owners. Buying my tonneau from him at the same time certainly didn't hurt. I've seen them listed for $420 but https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ghlight=westin will give you some more prices and info on them.

I have a couple of distant pics of them in my gallery.

Great looking steps whitmore. And I am a fabricating fool, but the cost of steel right now, the 3" tube would cost as much as a set of off the shelfs. Man, now you got me wanting to build my own. I may price some steel in the morning. Thanks for the idea.

I'm with 12 pack. Got the Westin Platinum Series and couldn't be happier. Lifetime warranty against corrosion. They shine up nice too.
Heck, I spent a bundle on the truck, whats a couple more for the best steps?

I have these on my truck and they can't be beat..really 1st rate. Only thing (like all the bars I looked at) is you need to buy your own cab mounting bolts, because the one's that come with the bars are not the correct grade, (you need grade 10.9). I ordered on a monday and they got here on a thurs....I really like them.

Mounting is more important then anything else with steps. IMHO.

I am sitting here with a post operative procedure on my right knee for 5 major tears in the cartilidge and a lateral release caused by the bracket of the step snapping off and my right knee impacting onto the door sill of the truck, driving the patella upwards and outwards while tearing a bunch of stuff inside.

It was quoted by the manufacturer..."A 450 pound man can jump on these all day long." Yeah right.

Making your own

I am afraid of the same thing as what happened to Scotty. (I am sorry to hear that Scotty...praying for a speedy recovery). I am not as strong or as big as Scotty, but want something that could hit a log or rock and not let me down getting into the truck and bed. So I am wondering how hard it would be to build a set that went from wheel to wheel, with 3 step points, that bolted to the frame, and could handle a beating. I am not much of a fabricator though, so I will be needing a starting point from someone else, or the name of a good shop in the Charlotte, NC area that could build some for me. I think that if they are worth having, they are worth being done right. Any help is appreciated.

For some reason I knew this would come from you. LOL

Knee feels better each day.
I think pulling a fire truck in July might have aggravated it a bit. Next time I will put BabyBlue under the wheels for a speed bump challenge.

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY I ordered a set of step bars from them, about $200 shipped. When they arived, there were two step bars and something that resembled a box at one point of the jorney im sure. I peeled the plastic off the bars and they looked great. I looked around for the rest of the stuff and imagine that. somehow the mounting hardware found its way out of the shell they call a box between here and there. I know its FedEx's fault for the abuse to the box, but the company has offered no help in the matter. They had me file a return for on line but I have never heard anything back from them. And to top it all off, they are the wrong bars. They tell me I have to have the original shipping container to return them, but there was nothing left. I took it to ship them back and the shipping company told me I could not use that piece of a box. I told them that they were the ones that made it look like that and they just said sorry. I guess i just lost my 200 bucks and learned a lesson. If I can save someone else the time and money I would like to so buy from these people at your own risk. I feel a little better now. Thanks.

I can back you up on this company too!! When I picked up my new Ram in June, I ordered a Dual-comp bedliner, and a Fold-A Cover bed top. Well, since day one I have been complaining about the bedliner, and to this day, Im still not to fond of the bed cover. I even contacted Dual comp personally. They were helpfull, and even tried contacting Truckaddons. They are HORRIBLE with customer service. After 3 months of phone calls and E-mails, I wound up calling my credit card company, and explaining the situation with them. They completely understood, and wound up crediting me over $800. They said its is a matter of bad customer care and service, and I wont have to deal with it, they will. So all in all, I wound up getting my money back almost 3 months later!!

My advice to anybody thats ordering any expensive aftermarket accessories, charge them, cause if they dont work, dont fit, and you have problems, you can put a greivance on the card to protect yourself.

On another note, I have the stock chrome tube Mopar steps on my truck, Im looking to prob get rid of them, I kind of dont like the footing on them, and Im thinking of going with the Mopar diamond plate set-up. My truck only has 2,200 mi on it, steps dont have a mark on them.

Check my photo gallery for the lates. I am a fabricator and enjoy using any tools I can. Rather than pay 75 bucks shipping to send the bars back and chance them sending me another wrong or incomplete set, I shortened the bars 8 inches and welded the threaded bungs into the shortend tubes. Chek my gallery for pictures of how they fit before I performed my work on them and step by step of what I did and how I did it.
