Squishy?

I posted this in two forums, so for yall reading it twice I do appologize.

Hey yall, I've been quiet for a while, moving and all. I just put four new Cooper Dicoverers on the back of my '05, and well........ There is just something not right, the rear trails when steering really bad, I am guessing due to too soft of rubber, but?? Anyone else experience this? Also, what is a good tire for this app. without breaking the bank? Thanks in advance yall

I've had Cooper Discovery s/t's on for 60k and they should be good for another 30k miles. What PSI do you run and what size. The Cooper 235 80's are way narrower than the stockers...that is why I went to 265's on the outsidecorner and now both on the rear. I run the 265's at 45 to 65 and only crank them to 75 when I'm towing at the max. The 235's seemed to take more psi otherwise they were a little squirelly with the tall sidewall versus the narrow tread.

The 265's are within .2 inches in diameter. I ran them side by side on the rear with the 235's on the inside. The 235's had 10k on them when the 265's went on and after towing a while they were even. The 235's were worn to the wearbars and the 265's still have half their tread left. I put Toyo O/C A/T 265's on the front and I like them alot. They will fit side by side with alot of room to spare. I got mine for $165 a piece installed. plus taxes. I too found ther 235's unacceptable but you might want to play around with the PSI's to find a happy zone. Which tire is it S/T H/T? ks

They are the ATR's. Thanks for your help. 165 is just more that possible right now. I got these cause they were $100 a piece. I'll play with the psi's a little, I just did not want to risk a blow out by running low psi, and if they are this bad on rolling now, lower psi just seems like it would make it worse. But I'm a telephone man, not a tire guy! Thanks again.

Are they load range E's....I didn't know they had ATR's in E. Less pressure is less good if they are squirming from side wall flex. If they are squirming from lack of contact patch or rounded tread contact then yes less pressure is good. On the rears 70psi is way too high unless you are heavily loaded. Radial tires typically have a sweet spot for tire pressure. What does your door jamb tell you is the ideal tire pressure. ks

Most likely the tires needs some heat cycling to firm up the tread blocks and to wear off the mold release. My buddy installed a set of ATRs on his Superduty and noticed the same.
