Spray in bedliner, Speedliner is junk, ask me first
Been thinking about getting another spray in. I had an "Ultimate Linings" bed liner put in my last truck. While the stuff was tough as nails, it faded within the first 6 months. I was bummed. I thought I'd never do it again, but I'm reading some of the liners are holding up.
I have had the BED RUG in my 06 of a year now and love it...super thick foam padding...easy to remove and clean, looks awsome if you have a bed cover or camper shell, nice to sleep on (fills in the "ribs" on the floor), stuff does not want to slide around.
I have hauled tons of boxes, computers, lab equipment, axles (toyota not D60's), engines, 55gal drums, quads, golf carts, lumber, pallets....with only minor damage to the bed (light dents but no scratches or chips). You can get them on ebay for about 350 new!!!
After last weeks 900mi trip (one way) to cabo san lucas and taking the 500mi long DIRTpac coast "north road" home thru constitusion, san juanico and ingnasio. We used the bed (with the shell on) as a passanger compartment (sleeper) for 1 or 2 of the 7 people total that where with me....the bed rug made all the difference, it kept 99% of the dust out (seals up the tailgate very well), makes for a pretty quit ride back there, and also helps keep all the gear in its place even through the knarliest sections (there where a couple washout areas, and a long straite strech that had 1-2ft tall dirt speed bumps built to keep the drug planes from landing ( i would guess). Anyway two thumbs up for the bed rug!!!!

There's lots of good information here, but I'll give you more information.
Speedliner and Scorpian are solvent based polyureas similiar to marine paint. You mix one quart of activator with one gallon of resin and then brush it on, roll it on, or use a hopper gun. Like paint, it takes several hours to dry and 72 hours to cure.
The other brands mentioned, LINE-X, Rhino, and Ultimate do not contain any solvents. The chemistry is totally different. LINE-X is a blend of polyurethane and polyurea, Rhino is 100% polyurethane, and Ultimate has several products since they merged with Xtreme Liner. Most bedliner products are sensitive to UV light from the sun and will fade and lose their gloss with time. Some companies offer an optional UV product that will resist fading and loss of gloss. Some of these optional products are decent, others are not. In my opinion, currently, LINE-X has the best one called Xtra. Xtra was developed over several years by LINE-X and Dupont. It's available in black or for color matching. If in color, it will contain all the pigments and metallic flakes that are in your truck's paint and contains a Dupont Kevlar micro pulp for extreme durability. Xtra is a one-time application and is maintenance free. Just wash it off.
LINE-X and Rhino offer lifetime warranties that are valid nationwide. LINE-X was the first to offer this sort of warranty, Rhino started in October of 2006. LINE-X is still the only franchised company to offer this type of warranty.
Again, these LINE-X bedliners with Xtra will resist fading and loss of gloss:

I have Rhino and am very pleased and my truck works to earn its keep. I had a coouple of areas cut and peel away on the edge of the tailgate. I just took it back to the place of install and they took my tailgate for a day and it came back as new. I also got a coupon for a free Rhino Shine which is supposed to prevent the fading.
I heard it adds 200-400lbs.....I wonder how much 10 coats weighs your truck down.
With cuts and tears the dealer told ME to glue them back down.

Laying blankets down and such what not is not my style. This is soppose to be a HD truck and there's owners out there that go to great lenghts to keep their spray in nice like the day they bought it. Well that doesnt fly for most of us. I can just see you guys being all obsesive on making sure you dont scratch your spray in. You probably got a bunch of blankets wood and all sorts of straps

Just get a drop in and you'll NEVER have to worry about it.
LINE-X weighs .7 pounds per square foot at 1/8" thickness. You're looking at about 60 to 80 pounds added to the truck. LINE-X also has a higher tear strength that Rhino: LINE-X 295 pli vs. Rhino (Tuff Grip) 225 pli, that's a 70 pound per linear inch difference!
I haul fill, stone, mulch, and lumber 5 days a week for work, and a quad or sled on the weekend with my truck and my Rhino Liner has never peeled or chipped. I did have one of my guys gouge the edge with a hammer and it popped a small chunk, but that was at the very end of the bed...had I thought about it, I would have told the dealer to wrap the liner over the edge of the bed down to the bumper...but I never asked them too.
Bash all you want, Line-X, Rhino Liner and so on are all great products, they just need to weed out bad dealers who don't prep properly, and then stick you with a bill after they claim the peeling was your fault...not theirs.
I talked to numerous people in my area, and drove to Syracuse to get my liner installed because I heard they were the best. Blame a bad dealer, not a bad product.

Well after reading all of this and after spending $800 on TWO Speedliners I do know the next truck will have a Rhino Liner. If that peels I will have the company redo it, if they refuse a drop in liner will go in..... Oh yeah and have the bedrails sprayed (have that now as well) but ALSO put on plastic/metal rail gaurds.
The things I am seeing both here and on the street is Rhino stands behind their product. Nationally and locally.
For crappy companies like Speedliner you can not even get a phone number for the company. That is a big tell tale sign.....
Well this truck is done with spray in liner. I will keep all posted, in a year or 2, how having 2 liners works.... Oh yeah for now I know the second liner quieted down the bed a whole lot, lot more then the first one did!!!
I bought my first truck used, a dually F350. It had a drop in bed liner and I LOVED it on days I was moving dirt and/or stone. I hated how things slid around on it and how I never knew what was under that drop in.....

To answer your question, slowsixspeed, yes I hauled everything in my bed. MY main job is taking care of buildings so that means anything from landscaping tools to building "stuff". So I did use it for real but I never let a forklift or something like that scrap it up....

That was "so" hard to get a phone number. Took me all of 5 seconds.
I know they answer the phone because I have called them before. Shoot I have been by that building even.
The Rhino is ok, but it gets white after being in the sun for a while. Line X doesn't seem to do it, either does Speedliner. (I looked at trucks before I chose my bedliner)
There is a Dodge CTD that drives around town once in a while. It's a 3rd gen, around 04 or so. It's white and they did red Rhino on the rockers, top of the bumpers, maybe the bed. Anyhow, it's just about pink now.

Not all Speedliner dealers use the same pigment. If they use automotive pigment, it will hold its color much better. However, it will still lose it's gloss. Even Speedliner's own website states that after 2,000 hours (that's less than 3 months), it can lose up to 20% of it's gloss.
Here's a couple of pics of Speedliner that was applied on the rockers, steps and flares. Notice the loss of gloss and faded color.

Another problem with Speedliner, Superliner, and Scorpian is that they are solvent based products (LINE-X and Rhino do not contain solvents). There are Federal, State, and local laws regarding spraying solvents. In the last year, OSHA has become VERY active in the spray-on bedliner industry. Basically, if you're spraying the volume of solvents that these brands are spraying, you MUST be in an approved OSHA spray booth which is pretty darn expensive and cost prohibitive for most of these dealers. The Speedliner dealer in Arlington, Texas was shut down by OSHA about six months ago. So, I think in the long term, these types of products will not survive.
The ONLY product that Rhino has that resists fading is called Solarmax. Actually, it's not a Rhino product at all. It's made by a company called Bayer. Bayer sells it to Rhino and Rhino slaps their name on it. Most Rhino dealers don't offer Solarmax because they cannot use the same machine that's used for Tuff Grip or Hardline. Tuff Grip and Hardline are 2:1 ratio products and Solarmax is a 1:1 ratio.
So, again, consider LINE-X with Xtra. This LINE-X Xtra bedliner will NOT turn pink.

I have an Ameron Industrial vrsion of Line-X. Perfect over 4 years other than a slow fade.
You have to get the right stuff. I would like some sticky rhino on the floor over my Line-X then it would be perfect. DUAL COMPOUNDS!
