snapped flywheel (flexplate)

i raced a 04 powerstroke with the 6.0, downloader, intake, and exhaust last saturday night. we went from a dead stop , i pulled him by about 1 truck length and was still pulling himwhen the trans locked up i heard BOOM!! i turned my pressure box off, and tried to see if it was my valvue train. i went to give it some gas and i had nothing. i cam to a stop and pulled the inspection plate and had my friend turn the key while i was under the truck. the torque converter and the flywheel was both spinning with goobs of metal shaving falling out. i had it towed to the my local performance shop and had him change it. have any of you seen this flywheel, i've seen small block chevy flywheels thicker than this. i ordered a suncoast flywheel and had them install it. anyway the thing i hate about the whole situation is that we was racing on a old country road in louisianawhen this happened, at 12 am in the middle of the night. the most dissappointing thing about this isi had to be pulled back to my house by the power stroke that i was racing
i hated it. i cussed the whole way there. and when i got there all i heard about was dodge sucks and all kinds of other crap. i guess those powerstrokes aren't strong enough to do this???

Ya they look pretty wimpy.I went through 2 of them ,it turned out that my alignment plate was out by over twice the allowable limit.I had a vibration when it was new, when they put new alignment plate in ,the truck was 100% smooth.

the local dc shop told me if i get enough people together with this problem , they might would recall it. my brother also had the same problem. i guess in 05 they went to a different flexplate, so they are really only having probs. whith the 05s. how many people do you think they mean??? is it enough to mess with???

greyrig05,

Just get a billet flex plate and forget about it. DC will never warrant a flexplate when you are pushing the unit beyond factory specifications.

I would suggest some serious $$$upgrades$$$ to your 48RE before you go calling out your buddy in the 6.oh no! again. If you only replace the flexplate the next thing in line is your converter if you keep on racing.
