Did you create a folder for the archived file and with 7zip directing the file to that folder?
Also the file could have been corrupted during downloading from Mads website. May want to try downloading again.

I am still not 100% sure how I get mine to work. I just click on enough stuff that I finally stumble upon it. I believe there is black magic involved.

Try going into your search function in the start menu and type .smt and search it. If you unzipped it, it probably got put in some other folder and is hiding from you. That worked for me one time. Then I just click and drag to put it in the little Smarty USB icon.

for some reason, the file i download from the mads site, isnt a .exe file. Its has the internet explorer logo and is a 7zip file. anyone know how to change it back to the .exe file? I try to extract it still and get nothing. Then when I search for a .smt file, nothing is found. this is kind of a PITA. I love this smarty, but man. Isnt there an easier way considering what marco can do with an ECM.

Hello , To be able to update your smarty ecm tuner. Please follow these guidelines.

Start by right clicking on your desktop to create a new folder. Rename the new folder smarty.

You will need to download the driver to the smarty folder. Save the driver to the smarty folder http://www.madselectronics.com/downl...DM_2.00.00.zip

You will need the smarty usb.exe This program allows you to update the smarty. Save this to the smart folder http://www.madselectronics.com/downl.../SmartyUSB.exe

The driver and the software programs need to be extracted into the smarty folder using THIS extraction tool. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/s...2.exe?download

Here are the directions for installing the driver http://www.madselectronics.com/downl...stallation.pdf

Once you have the driver installed you can use the smarty usb.exe program to update the smarty software. Click on the smarty icon. Press run. You will now see a seen button. Before you hit the send button you need to load a program into the smarty usb.exe. Click on file. Open , look in the smarty folder to find the smte file to load into your smarty.

Load the file and press run. It will take about 40 minutes to update your smarty.

Thanks
Bob

Bob, I followed the DTR installation thread to the "T," and still had no luck. My problem, was that I couldnt get the file I downloaded from the Mads site to unzip using 7zip to make the file a .smt file. The drivers were no big deal, cause i didnt even get that far.

I even felt like I did it wrong the 1st time and I erased everything and started over. It's really not hard once you know how to do it. You'll see...

Try doing a search in Explorer for *.smt on your local hard drive.
