Smarty and Insight now engine overboost code

Hey, guys! I just got my Smarty Revo and Edge insight from my brother today!! He sold his truck so I thought I would use his setup and then sell my juice w/attitude to pay him back. Anyway, I loaded sw8 everything default exept changed tire size to 34.5. I took the juice and attitude off and installed the insight and then went for a drive. It will only boost to 26psi and it also throws the cel with " engine over boost condition" Can somebody help me here? I hear so much good about the Smarty that I don't want to have to go back now.

Where's all the Smarty cheerleaders when a guy needs 'em? Well I just went back out to the truck and reprogrammed it so we'll see if it makes any difference in the morning on the way to work. I put the tire size back to 31", sw9, rp2, tm2, tq2, and raised the speed limiter to 150. Don't really know if any of this will make a change, but I'll find out tomorrow. In the mean time, any help would be great!

Are you reading the boost from the edge? You might not be seeing a true boost number.

The smarty will only boost fool up to 42-ish psi.

That's an awful lot of fuel that the two of them can throw out... I don't see any fuel upgrades in your sig.

I doubt this is the case, but do you have a RP gauge? You could be draining the rail.

Make sure you are running the smarty with no added timing, the edge throws a lot of timing in.

I am not up to speed with the edge products but first thing is first, I never believe you should hook up 2 electronic items at once. Run one or the other and make sure they are functioning fine on their own, then you can put them together. I dont care if the insight is only a set of electronic gauges, I would still run each product by itself then bring them together after you are sure they are both working properly. JMO.

I actually ran the smarty with the j/a for a little bit and then changed the j/a out for the insight. I didn't have the cel then.

I turned the wastegait off on the smarty thinking it might make a difference but no change.

Unload the Smarty back to stock, make sure you have the latest update from the MADS site, then reload it again. Something evidently did not load correctly.

I'll put it back to stock tomorrow and see if it will set any codes without the smarty loaded. How exactly do I know if I have the latest update?

When you plug the Smarty in it should show you a version number that you can compare to the version of the software on the download site.

Make sure when you do load the software you don't disturb the truck by turning on the radio, lights, etc, or you could get some unknown issues. Its a computer download after all and glitches can occur.

So I loaded the stock software, and went for a drive. I still only saw 25-26 #s boost and still got the cel and engine overboost code. Then I removed and re-installed the insight monitor, drove it agian, and still same thing. I did put a vicegrip on my wastegate hose of the turbo a couple weeks ago, so I decided to remove it and see what happened... no more cel! I went ahead and reloaded sw9 rp2, tq2 tm2 and wastegate on, changed the speed limiter and the tire size and drove it again.....still no cel!!!!! But, I still only see a max boost pressure of 25-26#s and I don't think that seems right at all. On the attitude monitor, I could see as high as 40-42# spikes and 35-38# regularly. Also, the insight reads about 300* cooler egt's wich actually seems more realistic than the 1600-1700* I could easily reach before.

Am willing to bet the Insight is just not adjusting for ambient pressure correctly. To be sure, add a temporary manual gauge to verify the boost pressures.

There's so many settings on the insight, that I think I may have just had one of the settings wrong for the boost guage. I called edge and they helped me get it straightened out. I will know when I drive to work in the morning if it's right. One thing that still confuses me is why the vicegrips on the wastegate hose set a cel with the insight but not with just the attitude or smarty.

I did get the setting changed on the insight to read the boost correctly. Now I've seen up to 35psi and then it drops off. I assume that this is when the wastegate opens. I am not sure why it does that? I originaly put the vicegrips on just to cure that. If I put the wastegate off setting on the smarty (now that I'm actually reading the boost right) will that allow it to keep climbing?

Try it and see what happens. Some trucks it works on others, like mine, it makes no difference and need a boost fooler to make over 35 psi or clamp the boost reference hose.

So, you can clamp the hose on yours and you don't get a code or anything?
