silencer ring
silencer ring
i know some folks have good luck with pulling their silencer ring, but i am not one of them! i tried to get that lock ring out for 3 hours! anyways, i just put some vise-grips on the silencer itself and yanked it clean out of the turbo! has anyone else done this? i cleaned everything up real well and made sure there was no metal parts in the turbo. everything works fine and i even pulled the air box boot off after a few hundred miles and checked the vanes on the turbo for damage, everything is A-O-K.

i sure did. the thing that was hurting my progress, was the fact that the split in the lock ring was at the 12 o'clock position, making it very difficult to get to and remove it "proper" way. anyways it is out and i am so pleased with the results. there is nothing better than the sound of a cummins when it spools that turbo!!
You, Sir, had exactly the same issue I had with both of my trucks. The gap was at 10 o clock to 12 o clock. I was flying blind so to speak. I did however manage to keep my patience and get both rings out cleanly.
What a PITA though!!!
