Shut off timer?
Hey i have a question again, i was at a local walmart and i saw a guy get out of his 2006 dodge , he hit the door lock, his horn beeped, he went in the store but the truck was still running. about 2 mins went buy and the truck shut off i looked twice there was not anyone in it so i dont know what to think? I know big trucks have 15 min timers to shut off so is this possible for a pickup?
so im still not sure where to look or where to get one of them?
i herd that its good to have one to let your truck cool down to normal running temps then rather shutting it down hot.

It's called a shut down timer, any diesel place will sell you one.
If you have a pyrometer though you don't really need one. I was going to get one from Diesel Manor when I got my gauges, the guy there talked me out of it.
I've pulled my trailer on the highway and pulled in to get fuel, it took less than a minute for the egt's to come down, driving in the city to Walmart or wherever chances are it never got that hot to begin with.

I have a BD Cooldown timer on my '06. At times it will keep the truck running even after a fairly short run but most of the time not. It uses the Pyro sensor to determine when to shut down but also has a timer that can keep it on up to 15 minutes if required. It seldom stays on more than a couple of minutes. It just keeps me from forgetting to "cool 'er down" when I need to make a pit stop and have other things on my mind.

I have a Howards Timer on my truck, but he stopped making them.
I love it! Has 2, 4, 6min settings, and usually 2mintues is all it takes to get it cool before shutting off, even after a long run on the highway.
The only thing id suggest, is if you have the money, id invest in an alarm that also has the cooldown feature(usually has remote start too), just a little piece of mind. The howards timer has to have the key on, in park, and parking brake on, and if you either try to release the ebrake or take it out of park(wont without key anyway) it will kill the truck.
