I've been to the track, but I haven't camped there. Someone told me you can see the race from the RV area, of course it depends exactly where you're set up at. So I figured we'd try it out; me and a few other friends that is.
Well, I think there are 2 RV areas. There were some RVs up on top of the Quarry that you could see the race from. But I don't think that is for the general public. I think that area was for racers. The other RV area was southeast from the track. You could see the RVs from the track, but wouldn't be able to see the track from the RV area. And based on memory its a bit of a walk from the RVs to the track.

To answer the first question, check out Orange County Diesel
https://www.ocdieselstore.com/
It's closer to the Los Angeles area but, they have some good prices.
Best racing in California (IMHO) is out in Monterey. Nothing more fun than the F1 and Superbike races at Leguna Seca Raceway.

Action Turbo in Santee is a good honest shop and very reasonably priced. They installed my Juice/Attitude awhile back. They installed my FASS, and also my HTT turbo.
Paint shops are everywhere. You just have to figure out which ones are the good ones.
Nsomniac05,
I retired recently from the Navy, but I did a 4 year tour at Miramar(when it was NAS) as an MP from Dec 93 up until the day the Navy handed over the keys to the Marines on 01Oct97. It's a much nicer base now that the Marines have it. I routinely shop at the Miramar Commissary, Exchange, and the Autoport store. So if you see a red Dodge with a KTM sticker on the rear window, or an old sky blue CJ7 crusing around, say hi.

I hear ya about not driving the truck too much these days. For the most part, I opt for driving our new Honda Element around town. It's getting as much as 29mpg on the hwy, so that aint too bad. But I tell ya, when I get back in the Dodge after not driving it for a few days, I fall in love all over again. Maybe we 'll run into each other some time.
I recommend spending all your time at the beach. If you go to mission beach, get there early for parking and leave before 2pm. Otherwise, you'll find yourself in the middle of a snoop dogg video with a bunch of thugs everywhere. The beach is the cheapest way to do absolutely nothing and will provide the best 'people watching' in San Diego.
I'm the same way with respect to driving the truck especially during these times of high gas prices. I'll normally be riding my midnight Yamaha Roadstar Warrior to work every day to save gas. But, if you see a white quad cab stocker with a 'support the troops' sticker under the big horn edition logo, honk twice and I'll know you're a DTR member. -WB
