Im looking to do a compound setup using this combination. I know its probably not ideal but I figure if I can make it work for now eventually I can upgrade to a more suitable top charger in the future and have a real Edit setup. Will this work or is the factory turbo going to completely kill any real power that the bigger turbo will provide? If this can be done will i make more power than if I went to a 64mm single and eventually upgraded to twins? Im going to be running flux 3s along with the setup as well as TNT-R and probably an MP-8.

 

It will work. You are correct in that it will not be optimum. The s480 will be lazy under the stock turbo, but it will work to a certain degree and yes, it will be more than a 64 single.

With flux 3's (I used to run them so I know what 'cha got) the s480 is just right under a 62. Don't go for the 64 on top with this setup, it is overkill for you and you'll hate the extra lag.

 

Ok so Ill give the stocker and s480 a try. Any idea what kind of power I will make with this setup?

 

With Smarty and MP-8 maybe mid 600's. Drive pressure will be limiting factor due to the stock turbo.

 

You get to the mid 6s with a stock turbo in a twin config and you are on borrowed time. Get a 62 and put it over a gt4202 or a 475 and you will be good for 700+ with the right fuel combo. I have had both setups and there is a huge difference between the stocker and a 62. My current setup is a garret bb 61.8x 14 with a 68 wheel over a gt4202 and it flat rips. Spools better than stock and good for 700hp.
