Rusting MBRP
Rusting MBRP
Has anyone else experienced rusting of their MBRP SS exhaust? I put mine on three weeks ago and the shiny surface it came with has been altered - - I now have rust spots showing up at all welds and in some other areas of every section

You're not the only one. I have repeatedly posted about the rust problem, oh well. Wait till you've had it for a year or so. Ugly. It's too bad guys don't do more searches on these products before buying.
When I questioned them about it I was told to go under there and "rub it out". Yeah, I'm gonna polish my exhaust.

well you could use neverdull on it or some polish and an s.o.s. pad. but it does suck after you pay that much then it rusts. I would be mad also. stainless exhaust is not cheap at all. Ive seen a few trucks with it on there and it still rusts, just not as fast as aluminized stuff it seems like
Cheap stainless (most of it literally comes from CHINA) and the amount of care taken while finishing the product (like cutting or grinding on carbon around the stainless or using a the same abrasives that you used on carbon or if its in the weld low grade filler wire) are the only two reasons stainless mufflers will rust.
I put a chinese, muffler grade, stainless, magnaflow, on mine with 4" 316 food grade stainless from the turbo back to the muffler and a 6" 316 stainless stack and only the muffler has little rust spots on it. The rest of it has none and never will have unless it comes in contact with carbon at some point. Is it that important not to have little bits of rust on it? Probably not enough for "Joe Comsumer" to want to pay the extra for the real deal.
Sometimes price isnt the true measure of a good deal.

I've got the 409 stainless, it's rusty, I don't care. It won't perferate for more years then the stock unit. The performance gain was all I was looking for. It's an 03 and it's 07 now, if I get 5 years+ out of it, that'll be good. I put a 304 tip on it, so you nearly have to stand on your head to see the rust anyway. $.02

The stainless rusting problem also has to do with the iron content. If a magnet will stick to it, then it will rust. As one of the other guys said, it will not rust through nearly as fast, but it will look bad.
The magnet test is not a true measure of the ability of stainless not to rust as many times 316L (which is the same we use for food grade and pharmaceutical tanks and piping) will attract a strong magnet. However as long as it is properly welded and ground it will NEVER rust on its own. Even with road salt etc.
I just read in "diesel tech's"(mag just come out today go check it out) new mag that rusting isnt all that bad on the mbrp system. (t409 and t304) The rust will not eat through your system.
