I think it all boils down to the fact that some people are optimistic and some people are pessimistic. I'm not the kind of person that worries about every little thing in life and I would never let the fear of some jackass voiding my warranty stop me from changing something on a truck that I paid big dollars for. I did the tone ring advance and this is the best my truck has ever run. I might be crying when I have to pay 7 g's for a motor but I'll cross that bridge if I come to it.

Well I ordered my Rokktech yesterday. I too, feel a little more comfortable just changing the sensor as opposed to pulling the tone ring off.

I understand both viewpoints. To the more mechanically challenged (like me)..LOL...I suspect the sensor change will be a little easier.

If you're that concerned about the warranty then you'd probably be better off not modifying your truck until it is out of warranty. The phrase "you play, you pay" says it all. When you start modifying your truck you have to be willing to become your own warranty station if you have to. Some people are willing to take a chance for improved performance and some are not.

I don't know. My fat fingers work a lot better with a ratchet and 15mm socket than they do with a little ole' allen wrench.

Totally off the subject, but a long block assembly for my truck is listing at $11,000 right now. I'm sure that an HPCR is a little more.

I have no problem paying if I play, but I do not mind a little insurance. At the same time I would never suggest to someone whom I do not know that they worry about every little thing or that they should wait until their truck is out of warranty to modify it. I just gave my opinion on the subject but did not make a suggestion on what other people should do with their truck. I say to each their own. But I guess some people just have to feel like they right all the time no matter what?

It's not a matter of being right at all. That's ridiculous.

You seemed very concerned about your warranty. I simply stated that if you are THAT concerned about modifications voiding your warranty then it might be better for you to wait until your warranty expires before modifying your truck. I'm not sure why that upsets you so much.

To each their own is right. If someone wants to spend $70 for something that they can get for free then it's no skin off my back.

I know this is just plain going to sound stupid, but where would one be able to order a Rokktec sensor? I have searched for info but only turn up three hits for Rokktec...al leading back to this site.

From the jest of this thread, I too would shy away from doing the tone ring mod (strictly my personal preference) and would most definitely prefer replacing the sensor. Your help pointing me to the right place would indeed be GREATLY appreciated.

All I am saying is you seem pretty intent on people doing this tone ring mod. But if you read a lot of the threads on this subject a lot of people are saying that $70.00 is cheap insurance so that they do not have to worry about their warranty. I do not see the harm in being concerned about a warranty on a truck that costs upwards of $40,000.00. I keep saying that this cheap insurance so that this mod can be done no one will ever know.

As far as the website:www.rokktech.com

What about the compatibility of this sensor with a timing box or any other performance box for that matter?? Can we still use performance boxes with these sensors?

Everything that I have read says that you can. I am looking at a bullydog right now and I will definitely ask that question directly to Bully Dog before proceeding. I would suggest that anyone looking at a box should ask that box's manufacturer first.

If you are that worried about warrenty just go down to the cummins store and buy a spare tone ring! I would guess that a piece of stamped steel is cheaper than the sensor.

I did it to my truck with excellent results...and I know a good thing when I see it. I'm just trying to help others who are interested in doing it too.

I was intent on saving $70 when I did mine...so yeah, I guess you could say I was intent on doing the tone ring mod. As I said, if you (or someone else) feels more comfortable forking over the money and replacing the sensor then have at it. Doesn't matter to me. Doesn't make sense to me either, but it's not my money so I don't care. No need to get all upset and start accusing people though. I was offering my opinion just like you were offering yours.

Which brings up another topic that has been discussed on this board many times...ethics. Personally, I think it is wrong to modify your truck, knowing full well that you could possibly be doing something that might harm it, and then try to hide that from the dealer so that you can still have your warranty coverage.

Why should DC have to pay for something that we messed up?? **

**That is, once it has been proven that our modification is what caused the damage.
