Quad Boost Fooler and Smarty Jr

Does this seem like it would yield me anything. They are only $50.00 so I was just seeing if I should get one or not. What gains would I see?

I can't say I have noticed a increase in power, if anything it "feels" like I've lost some power coming out of the hole. I can't say that for sure but it's just how it feels.

I bought the boost fooler not for the added power or the lower EGT's but for keeping my overboost CEL coming on. I see over 45psi and if I wern't running the BF I would always have a CEL on.

Unless you have the Jr stacked with something else you will not really get a benefit from a Boost Fooler. The Smarty Jr disables the WG and continues to fuel up to 44psi (which is above the turbo's MAP anyhow)...

A boost fooler only effects the truck at WOT or close to WOT operation. Under launching and normal operation a boost fooler will not do anything. In fact the fooler is passive until about 22psi, then from 22psi up the ECU only sees 22psi. (IIRC Quad uses 22psi)

So, long story short.. Boost fooler with a Smarty Jr does nothing.

nate i would hate to know that you are seeing 45psi on a 03 turbo, your drive pressure must be thru the roof

You can hurt a stock trans without a stack... So upgrade your trans, then try a smarty Sr... if you need more than level 7, maybe 9 (if you have RP gauge) then your talking fuel and turbo.

My turbo really isn't doing much at 45 PSI besides blowing around hot air. What do you mean drive pressures? I know a new turbo is in my future. But not before trans work.

Drive pressure is the pressure on the engine side of the turbo in the exhaust.. To see 45psi on the 03 turbo you are probably seeing 80+psi of drive pressure.. and that is INSANE!!!

I would WG that turbo a lot lower, maybe 30-35.. you are probably loosing power from the hot air and drive pressures.

I see 30-35 PSI just running the Dr. P box alone and it's a dog. I really can't stand to have max boost at 30 PSI. I can see 40 PSI stacking the JR and Dr.P at WOT. Been seeing those kinds of pressures for 40-50k miles now. I only relate that kind of PSI to the boost elbow I put on the turbo.

Boost fooling won't control the WG, thats what the external fooler does.

It may or may not work, if you can't get the boost over 30 psi then get a fooler.

No, but the Jr turns off the WG on the 04.5+, 03-04 still need the elbow.

i just can't believe the turbo has made it at those boost levels. I mean even my truck lost its efficiency at 45psi, i can't imagine the 03 turbo. I mean stock the 03 maxes out at what 22psi, and mine stock maxed at 30-28. It might just be me and all but from what all i have read on here since owning a diesel it seems you are on borrowed time with anything over 30-35psi on your turbo. Just crazy man just crazy

On borrowed time. Yes indeed.

Planning on changing that after the new year.
