Q?s for Hamilton spring users

Apparently the 110lb springs are .045 larger on one side. How can you tell which side is up?

Also how do you set the valve lash on these motors once you get the train put back together?

To figure out which end is the small end of the spring, find a socket that barely fits over the small side, but is too small to fit over the big side.

As for the valve lash, Find TDC on the balancer (put it at 12 o clock)

At this point you can check
Exh. 1,3,5
Int. 1,2,4

Rotate 360 with barring tool or alternator nut, or bolt head on damper.
Then check
Exh. 2,4,6
Int 3,5,6

.010 for intake valves
.020 for exhaust.

The later model trucks have a different lash setting. IIRC it's .026 on the exhaust. double check if you have an 06 or later.

If you got the Source Automotive springtool, one side of the springs will fit, the other side wont.
