Has anyone or does anyone know of a person who broke or caused damge to turbo and/or engine because they were "trusting" there gauge/monitor??

Seems common sense that someone would back out of the throttle if they temp. got to 85%-90% of max temp. regardless of actual temp.

I use my gauge to look at as an overall measure of exhaust gas. Not as an
"I can run my truck up to this temp. before I back off" gauge.
Just my .02$

I think you hit the nail on the head. There was a big thread somewhere about sustained temp vs. peak. It is not a tell-all gauge anyway. If you are running too much advance, you can melt it down and egts never exceed 1200 deg.

Which is harder on your engine... Towing up a mountain at 1350 for 10 min. or dragracing and hitting 1600 in the last 1/8 for 5 seconds?

Id still much rather see what my engine/turbo is seeing vs some rough average thats a good 2-300* cooler(And some have reported a post turbo gauge being off by as much as 450-500* under heavy loads)

Why have the guage if you dont want an acurate reading?

because I know what the temp is coming out of the turbo , lets me know its not coking the oil on the bearing. has anyone here ever seen an engine with a burnt piston because the guys egt readings were post? having one pre and post I have seen 425 degrees differance wot under load. I have one just post in my driver, and its there so I know how hot the turbine is before shut down, something a preturbo thermocouple will not tell me. having driven cummins dodges since 90 I will say this never burnt one yet and the 03 hot rod is the first pre mount I have done. and not first, only done it to see the differance a year later. six of one half dozen of the other.

Pre-turbo, it's not that hard. Go to Harbor Freight get the chinese tap and die set. I did the running engine while drilling thing, but do what you want. To me it seemed pre-turbo was better, but anything is better than nothing.
They sell manifolds that have 6 already drilled holes (I think aviation do or can have multiple EGT gauges)

Hellmans makes good stuff from what I hear.

If I had to do it all over agian, I would stay post turbo. Less headaches with installation and if you ever need to make your truck appear stock, it will be easier. The few second delay you have does not matter unless you stare at your EGT the whole time anyway. Sure you can set your Edge to defuel, but set it to 1000 or 1100 and you will still be safe.

they are post turbo incase of the probe ever breaks off, it wont go through the turbo. but that is VERY rare and not likely to happen.

if you want to monitor your cylinder temps, mount it pre turbo. if you want to monitor your turbo temps, mount it post turbo. otherwise dont bother installing one because it wont do you much good if its not monitoring exactly what you want to see.
