Pulling with 35's?
Pulling with 35's?
If I put 315's on my truck, how much will it effect my ability to pull heavy loads. I belive I have the 3.73 gears. I am planning on getting a gooseneck, to haul a vehicle and maybe a 4wheeler on. I do not have a programer yet, but will I still be O.K. to pull fairly heavy loads, or do I need to wait until I can get a programmer also. Thanks in advance.
You will notice a loss in power but not much since you have a 06 are only towinf a truck. You may have to drop it in to 5th on the steep hills but nothing major. If it was a major problem then none of us would run 35's and you wouldnt see any posts reguarding 35" tires.
I did just fine my taller and heavier 35" toyo MT's on my 03 6 speed towing over passes.

You have 3.73's but your G56 6 speed tranny is low geared...
It's like having 4.10's with the old 6 speed (nv5600)
You'll do fine with 35's
Plus you'll get the rpm's down a little
It's alot easier to contol it with a 6 speed also. Guys with 35s and even 37s pull HEAVY loads with automatics... with big laggy single turbos

I have 35s and tow fairly heavy from 3k - 30k all the time during the summer. Really have no problems other than sometimes wishing I had a 0 gear to go before 1 to get a load moving (sometimes when real heavy start in 4 lo 1 then 2 and double clutch back into hi, reason being I have a very very sticky clutch so there is no slipping to get it rolling). Once I'm rolling I really notice no difference in towing...
Are you refering to me Luken? LOL
#5's will do fine. I actually think 35's w/ 3.73's or 37's with 4.10's are the optimal final gearing set up for these motors...if you like road speed while towing. Add a small power adder to make up the difference if there is "hole" in your power band.

I have pulled over 17,000 pounds with my 315's and had no problem. The 3.73 and G56 is a great towing setup. I myself like the 315's for a little less rpm's going down the road. As for down shifting to 5th I don't see that happen as you will be in the sweet spot when going down the raod.
First thing I did on mine was get rid of those tiny stock tires and went with 315 BFGs. . .I started pulling a 7K LB toy hauler up and down some pretty big passes here in CO. NO Problems here. . . Sure is fun when your pullin away from most everyone comin up those long grades.
