Power Loss above 2000 RPM with SMARTY & other stuff
Truck in my sig:
I have noticed on my last highway trip that I seem to have a loss in power in the mid-upper RPM range. Truck idles fine, runs smooth, has no codes or noises, & builds the same boost. I really notice it pulling away from a toll booth where it would always pull very strong...expecially once boost had built and RPM's were above 2000. I just don't seem to feel that kick in the a$$ like I used to. Vefy subjective, I know, but just throwing it out there. I've done nothing yet, but I have a Raptor 100 lift pump & thought I'd clean the inlet screen and change the fuel filter...any other thoughts? I don't have a rail or low pressure fuel gauge. Thanks in advance |
My only guess would be the fuel filter.

What turbo? What program? How much boost above 2K? EGT'S above 2K? Rail pressure @ Idle, Mid & WOT?
Could be a popped Rail Pressure Valve. |
I don't have a rail pressure gauge, so I can't answer that, but I'm running SMARTY #7 and haven't really noticed any differences in EGT's or boost. At 3/4 throttle above 2K, I usually see about EGTs about 1050 and boost is 22-24psi.
Turbo is stock 2003 SO motor...whatever that is. Thanks for the reply. Maybe I should cap the pressure relief valve and give it a try... |
I would definately get a RPG and see what your pressures are now!
Also, you are not "making oil" right? |
maybe you've just gotten use to the hp your at and need more![coffee]
your on the right track with stuff to check and the rp would be a good thing also. The local dodge place will let you take a drive with a tech and Starscan hooked up for 1/2 hour shop labor rate. Cheaper than buying a $200 rp gauge. |
Thanks for the replies. Oil level hasn't moved and is staying pretty clean. I would like to reconfigure my gauge situation and add a RPG, but I really should sell my Edge first to help with the cost.
Also, I am on a boat and will have a 500+ mile drive home before I'd be able to mess with this. Hopefully there won't be any consequences. |
