Question PML front diff ?'s

Has anyone installed a PML front diff cover yet? I'm curious about clearance issues up front. How was the install? I'm due to change fluids out and I plan to install the PML covers. The rear looks easy enough but I haven't heard of anyone doing the fronts. On a side note, what finish did you all go with on the PML's? I like the polished on the rear but would like to know how it holds up. Thanks in advance.

There shouldn't be any clearance issues with the front since it was designed for the Dodge front axle.
On the rear talking with Brent Lottman at PML it appears they anodize the aluminum covers. Oxidation shouldn't be an issue.

I'm a happy PML customer.

Original Junior,

There aren't any clearance issues unless you've added some kind of aftermarket something or another to the truck etc.

The finish we always reccomend is the as cast aluminum. It drop the fluid temps more and faster than any other finish. There is a pretty big difference in heat retention on a polished cover but the worst is if you get a powder coated cover. Powder coating is a very good insulator and really holds the heat in the houding.

I totally understand the looks" issue especially on a polished finish, but I would reccomend against it. Give us a call and we will be glad to help you with any questions etc. We stock all the PML pans and covers and have had some really excellent results with them. If you are set to have a polished one we can get that for you as well we just don't stock them as a normal item.

Here's a question, has anyone had any problems with the dealer complaining bout aftermarket covers and warranty?

I would hate to put the covers on (because it has a drain hole) to ease the oil changes DC mandates every 15k miles, and have them void the warranty on the axles cause of increased heat retention. I'd go ballistic.

I'll will chime in on the heat retention. I have done studies on heat sinks in computers and found to be about 5-10 degree C delta between a coated (paint or powercoat) verses natural aluminum.
And just think, the stock rear cover is painted anyway.
