Performance valve spring question
Evenin, DTR.
A while back, I purchased some 92# Don M springs... I got a deal on them. Now I'm seeing that most of the aftermarket cam guys are calling for 110+# springs.
I'm not planning on running 5K rpms, but I'm wanting to run a bigger cam... are the 92s good enough, or do I need to go with the 110s?
Thanks for looking.

I had a DP3 cam from Fletcher in the Interceptor with Don's Sportsman springs and Never had an issue at all.....
Personally I think the lighter seat pressures will allow a better oil film for your cam, as long as you're not floating the vales...
I think you'll be fine.

I agree with the above. 110 is too much for most applications for us.
RPMs is only one piece of the pie, boost another-- cam profile also plays... I don't want to get into the reall nitty gritty of the science behind it.... Lots of not so nice threads in another forum on the subject and a lot of hot air in those threads too.
The 90's you have give a lot less pressure over the nose and that's helpful to wear. High ramp rates of the newer cams when combined with boost/rpms start pushing the need for stronger springs.
I think a lot of what you see presently is based more on "what can I sell/make money off of" than real "need".
All that said, I'm using 110's... but I hit 90 psi once in a while too...

Yeap, as stated above. I am still running stock springs at the moment. Boost is max at 42 psi and the ramp rates are not crazy. 50 psi of boost is running the limit on stock springs. Your springs will be fine with most Cams. The ramp rate is what will get ya.

Haters gonna hate!
I'd like to get the motor sent in, bottom end, pistons coated, head work for flow... at the same time some twin pumps and triples...
Move all the crap out of the way, move some new stuff in.

Ha ha... they don't... I'm gonna off the OL and kids to be able to afford it!!!
I really have not done anything to it in the last two years... no money, and nothing out here worth going to or doing. I'm hoping to change that after this next rotation. And the 7 month deployment I'm going on soon...
