Pac Brake Mod - Calling Electrical Gurus!!
Pac Brake Mod - Calling Electrical Gurus!!
My '03 is one of the very early builds, and the computer does not kick out the proper information to operate the Pac Brake as the instructions describe (i.e. the brake should stay on until the engine reaches ~170, and will then shut off so long as the vehicle speed is below ~1mph). Basically, mine is ON until I manually turn it OFF. So, what I'd like to do is rig up some sort of speed sensor inline with the Pac Brake brains, such that if the vehicle isn't in motion, it stays OFF, but operates normally once vehicle speed is "sensed". I was thinking some sort of motion sensor off the rear driveshaft or something?? Or, perhaps tapping into the VSS, if one exists? Any ideas out there???
You have the proper ECM pins tapped for the pacbrake? My early '03 does exactly what the pacbrake instructions say. As soon as I press the throttle the brake will disengage. Sounds to me as though it is not hooked up prpoperly...just a guess.
This is how mine is hooked up.....http://pacbrake.com/PDF/L5304.PDF

The throttle input and all works great, it's the "warm up" and "auto-off" features that don't work properly on my early '03. Basically, if you have the Pac Brake engaged, it's supposed to stay on at idle until engine temp reaches ~170, and then turn itself off at idle/zero speed. Of course it will always disengage with throttle input. I've talked with Pac Brake about this a couple times, and they have told me it's just a problem with the early-build '03 models, and they don't have any sort of fix, so you just have to constantly manipulate the toggle switch. No real biggie, but it would just be nice to have it work as truly intended.
If your Pacbrake ran a power source out to the brake to activate it, our autoloc could be set up so that the brake would work only at a pre set speed. The autoloc is designed for the automatic transmission, but you could delete that portion of the wiring and just use it as a speed control for the brake. Give me a call and I can discuss your options.
